It's 1953 and Sidney Chambers (James Norton), is vicar of Grantchester, a village just outside Cambridge. Sidney's is a quiet life. Or at least, it has been right up until the moment that murder comes his way. In Series One Sidney is pushed in the dangerous world of lies, betrayal and murder and quickly finds that he excels in his new position as detective helping Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green). But crime isn't the only matter that occupies Sidney as he's smitten with the witty, beautiful, high society Amanda (Morven Christie). Series Two sees Sidney himself wrongly accused of a terrible crime and unmasking the real culprit will send shockwaves through the community. With Series Three Sidney finds himself tested as the love he feels for Amanda puts him at odds with the church. There is a change at the vicarage in Series Four as Sidney's time there draws to a close. But soon there's the new Vicar of Grantchester, Will Davenport (Tom Brittney), stepping up to take Sidney's place at the pulpit, and it s not long before he's solving crimes too. And never far from the action are the naïve, but well-meaning curate Leonard Finch (Al Weaver), and his austere and constantly disapproving housekeeper Mrs Maguire (Tessa Peake-Jones). SPECIAL FEATURES include The Making Of Each Series, Inside the Christmas Special, Cast Interviews, Sidney & His Women, Behind the Scenes, Warpisode , The Stunts, The Trouble with Sidney & Geordie, Deleted Scenes, Subtitles.
Jessica Alba stars as a hard-working dancer and choreographer who makes good but finds that working with a group of neighbourhood kids is worth far more than success.
It has its own stormy weather and fire-breathing housepet named Spot, but the mansion at 1313 Mockingbird Heights is otherwise like any other American sitcom home. This is the address of the Munsters, the family that for two seasons, 1964-66, found a permanent place in pop culture--if not "monster" success. Developed by Leave It to Beaver team Joe Connelly and Bob Mosher, the series was a standard sitcom (complete with the same awful canned laughter), except that the Ward Cleaver character was a reanimated corpse. Dad Herman (Fred Gwynne) was a Frankenstein's monster, mom Lily (Yvonne DeCarlo) and Grandpa (Al Lewis) were vampires, and son Eddie (Butch Patrick) a little wolf-boy. Munster niece Marilyn was inexplicably normal, which prompted much worry from the other members of the family (she was played in early episodes by Beverly Owen, who left to get married, and then by Pat Priest). The plots revolve around typically tortured sitcom situations: Herman must lose weight to fit into his old Army uniform, Herman has insomnia, Herman takes dance lessons from a crooked instructor. (As that list would suggest, 6'5" Fred Gwynne's wonderfully agile slapstick and Borscht Belt comedy made him the center of the show.) What distinguished The Munsters from Father Knows Best was the Universal horror-movie lineage and the ghoulish one-liners (the latter growing a bit tedious after a while). The show was either pure kiddie farce or a radical comment on the absurdly unreal world of sitcoms. Either way, if you grew up with them as an alternate TV family, you can't help but have warm feelings for the Munsters, as clammy as they are. --Robert Horton
A Cambridgeshire clergyman finds himself investigating a series of mysterious wrongdoings in his small village of Grantchester.
The 1976 Oscar winner for Best Picture, John G Avildsen's Rocky is the story of a down-and-out club fighter who gets his million-to-one shot at a world championship title. In the title role, Sylvester Stallone (who also penned the screenplay) draws a carefully etched portrait of a loser who, in Brando-esque fashion, "coulda been a contender". Rocky then becomes one thanks to a publicity stunt engineered by current champ Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), while finding love courtesy of timid wallflower Adrienne (Talia Shire) along the way. Burgess Meredith revives the spirit of 1940's genre pictures through his scenery-chewing performance as Rocky's trainer. An enormous entertainment, Rocky is irresistible in its depiction of an underachiever who has the courage to start all over again--a description that could have been applied to Stallone's own life at the time. --Kevin Mulhall

But the very role he loves put him at odds with his own ideals when his kind-hearted curate, Leonard Finch (Al Weaver) is caught up in a scandal. Will's best friend, Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green), finds his principles shaken, housekeeper Mrs Chapman (Tessa Peake-Jones) is distraught, and Geordie's wife Cathy (Kacey Ainsworth) is defiant. With new crimes around every corner, and morality and legality at loggerheads, it's going to take all of Will's skill and empathy to navigate these choppy waters and help the ones he loves.
Tony Kushner's prize-winning play Angels in America became the defining US theatrical event of the 1990s, an astonishing mix of philosophy, politics, and vibrant gay soap opera that summed up the Reagan era for an entire generation of theatre-goers. Post-9/11 would seem to be too late for a film version--philosophy and politics don't always age well--but this 2003 HBO adaptation, ably directed by Mike Nichols, provides a time capsule of the '80s and reveals the deep emotional subcurrents that will give the play lasting power. The story centers around Prior Walter (Justin Kirk) and Louis Ironson (Ben Shenkman), a gay couple that falls apart when Prior grows ill as a result of AIDS. But cancer is not the only thing invading Prior's life: He begins to have religious visions of an angel (Emma Thompson) announcing that he is a prophet. Louis, who doesn't cope well with disease and suggestions of mortality, leaves and starts a relationship with Joe Pitt (Patrick Wilson), a closeted Mormon who works for Roy Cohn (Al Pacino)--the real-life right-wing lawyer, notorious for his ruthless behind-the-scenes machinations. Add in Joe's depressed and hallucinating wife Harper (Mary Louise Parker), his determined but open-minded mother Hannah (Meryl Streep), a fierce drag queen/nurse named Belize (Jeffrey Wright, reprising his celebrated performance from the Broadway production), and you've still only begun to discover the wealth of characters and storylines in Kushner's ambitious work. The powerhouse cast (also featuring James Cromwell, Michael Gambon, and Simon Callow) is uniformly superb. The script has its weaknesses--some of the fantastic elements, including Prior's journey to Heaven towards the end, fall flat--but even what doesn't work is bristling with ideas and a ferocious desire to capture human existence in this time and place. --Bret Fetzer
