Down the years the film has been seen in two versions and has been distributed both as Sympathy For The Devil and One Plus One this product now presents audiences with the opportunity to experience both versions.

Do you know of a film on a band that features Bill Wyman Ron Wood and Charlie Watts (it's not the Rolling Stones) - also features Kenny Jones and John Entwistle (and it's not The Who) - also features Ringo Starr (no - it's not The Beatles) plus a few other 'less well known' artists such as Andy Fairweather-Low Chris Rea Gary Brooker and Raf Ravenscroft (remember the Saxaphone solo in Baker Street?)... don't know? Well it's just got to be... Willie And The Poor Boys! This band in concert was filmed at the Fulham Town Hall London UK in 1985 and was a concept based on an original idea by Bill Wyman. Much as he loves his post-'Stones blues 'n' roots supergroup, the quiet bassist is content to remain just that in Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, captured in the studios of the German TV music programme Ohne Filter--Musik Pur ("Unfiltered pure music"--snappy, or what?). The musicians give a good account of a selection from the band's recorded output; look out in particular for the excellent "Walking One and Only", "Anyway the Wind Blows" and the stonking workout at the end of the concert. BWRK includes Graham Bond, Gary Brooker, Georgie Fame, Albert Lee, Wyman's songwriting partner Terry Taylor plus various other players, all of whom clearly love what they're doing. Fame seems to be the frontman a lot of the time, a role which suits him, so it's too easy to forget that it's the little chap with the tiny hands somewhere behind him who's responsible for this classy little unit. On the DVD: Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings on disc offers standard TV 4:3 picture but a choice of sound formats (Dolby 5.1 or 2.0 and PCM Stereo) and has various extras including artist biographies, a self-congratulatory interview with the show's producer and a rather pompous account of the label's recording techniques. --Roger Thomas

This 1991 concert film was shot in the IMAX format and was originally presented on enormous IMAX screens, with outstanding visual and audio clarity. The dimensions may have been scaled down for this DVD release, but the show is still huge in energy and talent. Filmed during a European leg of the Rolling Stones' Steel Wheels tour, this production boasts 15 songs and an extraordinary stage set with inflatable floozies (for "Honky Tonk Woman") and wild dogs (rather cleverly for "Street Fighting Man"). The Stones' set emphasises material from the late 1960s and early 70s ("Tumbling Dice", "Happy", "You Can't Always Get What You Want"), but the band's performance is so furious that the show is far from a pandering oldies act. Highlights include "Paint it Black", at once brutal and delicate, as well as a muscular "Rock and a Hard Place", a psychedelicised "2,000 Light Years from Home", and a cheeky "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll". Once kings of a gloriously sloppy sound, the Stones prove to be as effective in their artistic maturity with small, breathtaking touches as they are with chunky orchestration. Guitarists Keith Richards and Ron Wood play as if they are of one mind, Richards providing powerful leads while his partner captures some of the texture of the group's original recordings. Bassist Bill Wyman, still in the band at this phase, offers wit and an encyclopaedic grasp of rhythm & blues history, while drummer Charlie Watts adds control and swing. Mick Jagger prowls, climbs around the set, and delivers all the charismatic goods for adoring audiences, even touching the forbidden fruit again in a feverish performance of "Sympathy for the Devil". The DVD also includes a full Stones discography. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

This one hour program is the record of the superstar segment of that significa
The Rolling Stones are one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of our time having sold in excess of 200 million records worldwide. This fascinating programme tells the story of the early days of the band and how they became The Rolling Stones we know today. Jagger and Richard were childhood friends becoming reacquainted in 1960 at Dartford Railway Station due to their love of music. Later meeting Brian Jones who in 1962 went on to form The Rolling Stones. The story of the early Stones is very much a tale of how Brian Jones forged the band with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and became a key catalyst in the creation of their early sound. But whether it was the pressures of early fame or through his addiction to drugs his role in the band became untenable. Even though he is credited as originally forming the band he was eventually over shadowed by Jagger and Richard and his role gradually diminished until in June 1969 he was asked to leave. Less than a month later and under questionable circumstances he was found dead in his own swimming pool believed to have taken his own life. Using performance footage and rare interviews footage with Brian Jones Mick Jagger Charlie Watts Keith Richards and Bill Wyman as well as The Stones Manager (1962/67) Tony Calder and Brain Jones' former partner Pat Andrews this in depth programme provides a fascinating insight into the original formation of this incredible super group during their first decade. The programme concludes at the staged event in Hype Park 5th July 1969 which became recognised as a memorial concert to Brian Jones. This DVD is a must for all music and Rolling Stones fans.
