Hope and Crosby have to leave Melbourne in a hurry in order to avoid a dual shotgun wedding. On their way to Bali they sign on as deep sea divers working for the sinister South-Sea-Island Prince Arok who wants them to search for lost treasure. It's there that they meet the lovely Princess Lala (Dorothy Lamour) whose charm appeals to both our underwater heroes - but who will surface nearest to Lala's affections?
Bob Hope Dorothy Lamour and Bing Crosby team up in ROAD TO BALI the sixth Road picture and the only one made in Technicolor. Hope and Crosby play music hall artists in Australia. After a series of adventures they find themselves in Port Darwin where they are hired as deep-sea divers searching for treasure. There they meet Princess McTavish (Lamour). Hope encounters a sea monster but still captures the treasure and all three escape to Bali. The film features cameos by Jane Russell Humphrey Bogart Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

This takes them to an idyllic island on the way to Bali where they vie with each other for the favours of Princess Lala. The hazardous dive produces a chest of priceless jewels which arouses the less romantic interest of some shady locals.
Legendary funnyman Bob Hope plays a baby photographer who gets mixed up with gangsters in this bubbly slapstick comedy-drama. Ronnie Jackson (Hope) wants nothing more than to step into the gumshoes of office mate Sam McCloud (film noir veteran Alan Ladd) a private investigator who runs his own detective agency. Jackson gets his big break when a mysterious femme fatale (Dorothy Lamour) strolls into his office and mistaking him for McCloud asks for help with her uncle's kidnapping. Jackson plays along with the detective role but is soon in way over his head as he becomes embroiled in a dangerous (and comic!) mystery. This spoof of the hardboiled detective genre also features horror legends Peter Lorre and Lon Chaney as Hope's villainous foils.

Bob Hope stars as Sidney Melbourne (A.K.A. The Lemon Drop Kid named so after his love of the simple candy) a con man who offers a friendly ""sure thing"" horse tip to the girlfriend of mobster Moose Moran at the race track. When the horse loses and Moose's original pick wins Moose gives Sidney until Christmas to pay back the money he lost or his thug Sam-the-Surgeon will ""open"" Sidney after Christmas.
