The financial crisis is raging and the number of bankruptcies and repossessions is on the rise but Detective Inspector Sarah Lund has a newfound sense of peace in the form of a new job a new home and the recognition of achieving 25 years of service in the Police Force. What appears to be a random murder at a scrapyard in the Copenhagen docks begins to interfere with Lund's plans for a quieter life and draws attention towards the shipping and oil giant Zeeland run by billionaire Robert Zeuthen who is the third generation head of the family to run this business empire. He is already troubled by his recent divorce and internal struggles within the company. Meanwhile Sarah Lund is disturbed by an old flame Mathias Borch from the National Intelligence Service (PET) who fears that the killing in the docks is the beginning of an assassination attempt upon the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Kamper is himself in the middle of a turbulent election due to the pressures of the financial crisis and is looking for backing from the commercial sector including Zeeland. Rumours arise that Zeeland is threatening to move the company and its production aboard - a potential disaster for the local economy. Both Lund and the investigation quickly become embroiled in the politics of the financial crisis and all too late she begins to piece together the perpetrator's plan and the sort of debt he is seeking to reclaim; a moral debt which costs lives and involves the taking of a particularly chosen hostage. Destinies cross over all sections of Danish society as the hunt for the perpetrator intensifies towards a dark secret which eventually puts everything at stake for both the Prime Minister Robert Zeuthen and Sarah Lund.

  • Honeymoon In Vegas [1992]Honeymoon In Vegas | DVD | (07/06/2004) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £5.99

Writer-director Andrew Bergman is capable of funny, funny stuff, but Honeymoon in Vegas runs out of jokes long before it runs out of comic ideas. The result is a series of comedy concepts that never get past the one-liner stage and are distinctly unsatisfying. Still, there is plenty to be amused by in this story of a reluctant bridegroom (Nicolas Cage) who finally agrees to marriage, only to lose his fiancée (Sarah Jessica Parker) in a crooked poker game to a professional gambler (James Caan). The rest of the movie deals with his frantic attempt to get his fiancée back, while coping with a Vegas in the throes of an Elvis-impersonator convention. That's the funniest thing about the whole movie (most notably the team of parachuting Elvises at the end), but even that is drawn out in ways that are more clever than laughter-inducing.--Marshall Fine, Amazon.com

  • Universal Soldier - The Return [1999]Universal Soldier - The Return | DVD | (06/06/2005) from £6.18   |  Saving you £-0.19 (N/A%)   |  RRP £5.99

Universal Soldier Luc Deveraux is back. Jean-Claude Van Damme gallantly attempts to resurrect interest in his tepid career with this action-riddled roller-coaster ride. Set in the not-too-distant future, Deveraux has been employed by the government to oversee the new UniSol project. What is UniSol? It's a military plan to turn dead soldiers into invincible fighting machines (see the first Univeral Soldier for more details). It's also the scheme that went horribly wrong when the soldiers turned psycho, killing the scientists who created them. Not deterred by this early setback, the government replicates the project. This time they work out that they can control the soldiers through a supercomputer called SETH (kind of like HAL in 2001, but smarter). But, as we all know, machines frequently break down. Pretty soon the computer comes to the conclusion that it's superior to humans and therefore it must destroy them. Uh oh.Van Damme to the rescue. The muscles from Brussels heroically leap into action confronting the dangerous soldiers led by Bill (WCW) Goldberg and Michael Jai White (last seen in Spawn). The action is impressive and the stunts are engrossing. Goldberg is charismatic as the cartoonish villain who sneers and snouts while muttering macho things like, "I'm gonna kill that guy." Van Damme looks more at home in a production that he is not directing, and for once he lets his fists do the talking. Ironically, the movie is missing the gloss and big-budget pathos of its predecessor (created by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich), making the original decidedly better. -- Jeremy Storey, Amazon.com

A sharp-looking computer-animated feature, Rudolph and the Island of the Misfit Toys, sees the return of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 37 years after his television debut. Using excellent voice casting with actors that sound like the originals, this new Rudolph looks and sounds grand. There's a mysterious Toy Taker gobbling up toys around the world. Rudolph and his team (including deer-friend Clarice, elf-turned-dentist Hermey and the abominable snowman) try to track the toys down and save Christmas again. While the setup and songs hold no candle to the original and the lessons learned are borrowed from Toy Story 2, the final third succeeds--it's always good to have a flying reindeer when you are chasing a blimp. Children aged three to nine who have seen the original will certainly want to see the sequel--however, their parents might be less enthusiastic. --Doug Thomas, Amazon.com
