Tasmania Australia the world's most isolated island. It's rumoured deep within Tasmania's wilderness an ancient species known as the Tasmanian tiger is alive and breeding. Yet modern science refuses to believe such a creature now exists since no witnesses have ever been able to prove it. That is until zoology student Nina claims she can breach Tasmania's impenetrable forests and reveal the tiger's existance to be true. Driving Nina's quest is one critical piece of proof: a paw print taken by her sister just before she met with a fatal accident eight years ago. But what Nina doesn't know is how Tasmania became Australia and the world's most dangerous island in the 19th Century when the murderous convict Alexander Pearce (aka The Pieman) broke out of prison only to eat his fellow escapees. Pearce was hung for cannabalism in 1824 but not before he has spawned a blood line who inherited his taste for human flesh. Soon Nina and her friends discover that in the wild whilst one species may have died out another has thrived - in the form of Pieman's descendants. When she sets out with her partner Matt and his old mate Jack and his girlfriend Rebecca their little expedition encounters the island's reigning breed but one who stands on two legs not four. The Pieman clan has survived and their need to feed and breed turns Nina Matt Jack and Rebecca into the next endangered species.

DIRTY DEEDS is an Aussie gangster flick set against the booming casino underworld of late 1960s Sydney. Bryan Brown (COCKTAIL, THE THORN BIRDS) stars as Barry Ryan, an Australian mobster who controls the city's gambling scene and is making a killing from the casino slot machines. His profitable venture attracts the unwanted attention of the American Mafia, who attempt to secure a piece of the action by sending in two of their henchmen: the pensive, world-weary veteran Tony (John Goodman) and his violent, not-too-bright sidekick Sal (Felix Williamson). Ryan soon finds himself fending off the trigger-happy Yanks, Outback-style, while also contending with his feisty wife (Toni Collette), needy mistress (Kestie Morassi), and a crooked cop (Sam Neill). Utilising flashy camerawork, black comedy, and mobster protagonists, writer/director David Caesar tips his hat to the criminal capers of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie, while lending the proceedings a distinctly Down Under flair.

  • Some Like It Hot [1959]Some Like It Hot | DVD | (06/08/2007) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £17.99

As well as being acknowledged as one of Marilyn Monroe's finest performances Some Like It Hot is a comedy which presents sharp satire and zany slapstick from acting talents led by Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. It's Billy Wilder's film as much as anything else as the comic genius manages to offer plenty of laughs in this cross-dressing classic. Some Like It Hot bridges a gap between traditional Hollywood screwball comedies and the dawning of a saucier more permissive era. For Monroe it's her sexiest and funniest role. As well as looking great she shows natural comedy talent while Curtis and Lemmon have rarely bettered their performances. From the opening scene to the classic closing line of ""nobody's perfect"" this film is an absolute joy.
