  Thomas Jane stars as Beat writer and Jack Kerouac-crony Neal Cassady in The Last Time I Committed Suicide, a promising film that quickly flops. Based on a letter Cassady wrote to Kerouac, this highly stylised feature from director Stephen Kay pretty much follows the former around as he does not much of anything at all. Keanu Reeves is incomprehensible as a friend of Cassady, and Kay's jazzy, angular, colliding style does nothing to illuminate the Beat icon's all-important internal life. If you're new to the whole Kerouac-Cassady-Beat world, this is not a good first stop; slightly better is John Byrum's 1980 Heart Beat, which at least introduces some of the principal figures. --Tom Keogh

  A high-strung yet winning crime comedy, Triggermen features an appealing cast in the story of two British con artists mistaken for a pair of seasoned assassins. Adrian Dunbar and Neil Morrissey play displaced, small-time thieves rotting away in Chicago and desperate to get home to the U.K. Morrissey's character has a solution: He takes a briefcase full of cash left in a hotel lobby for a pair of laidback, Yankee killers (Donnie Wahlberg, Michael Rapaport) hired through a second party to murder a Windy City crime boss (Pete Postlethwaite). The client (Louis Di Bianco) pressures the Brits to get the job done, while the real hitmen figure out they've been supplanted. It all makes for an enjoyable (and violent) lark, but an interesting angle finds Wahlberg's soft-spoken criminal anxious to get out of his trade (he falls for Postlethwaite's gorgeous daughter, played by Claire Forlani) while Morrissey becomes increasingly convincing as a gangster. --Tom Keogh

His conjoined twin's heart is very strong. Blake he knows could live without him. The brothers live quietly in an eccentric hotel peopled with odd characters talking in a shorthand formed over 25 years. They dress impeccably in a custom-tailored suit adjusting each other's ties; they dine on cotton candy and on their birthday their only meal is their trademark chocolate cake; they blow out two candles one at a time. They can keep straight faces while telling outrageous tales from their earlier days in show business. When Francis becomes ill Blake holds him through the night the way he always has. Together they feel complete. When Penny (Michele Hicks) a beautiful young woman enters their lives for the first time someone sees the brothers' world from the inside.
