Snatch (2000): A wild and tangled crime adventure involving gangsters Irish gypsies and a dog that can't stop swallowing things 'Snatch' is both hilarious and action-packed. Jewel thief Franky Four Fingers (Benicio Del Toro) is in London en route to New York where he will deliver an 86-karat diamond to his boss Avi (Dennis Farina). A compulsive gambler Franky is tempted into an illegal boxing scam becoming the unwitting suspect in a robbery committed by bumbling pawnshop owners Vinny (Robbie Gee) Sol (Lennie James) and their oaf-of-a-driver Tyrone (Ade). Meanwhile novice boxing promoter Turkish (Jason Statham) and his dim-witted partner Tommy (Stephen Graham) move into the ""big time"" with twisted crime boss Brick Top (Alan Ford) and Mickey a mumbling unhinged Irish gypsy boxer (Brad Pitt). Thrown into the proceedings are killers Bullet Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones) and Boris the Blade (Rade Sherbedgia). A stylized work with a gritty urban soundtrack and a cast of intricately developed characters 'Snatch' delivers superb and witty dialogue while depicting one of the more zany complex diamond heists ever portrayed in film. London (2005): Syd is a strung-out wealthy 20-year old guy whose life is about to go from meaningless to futile. After a massive drug spree he awakes to the news that he is about to lose his ""one true love"" forever... Syd's ex-girlfriend is moving from New York to Los Angeles. Syd has one more chance to win her back at her going-away party. Syd stocks up on cocaine and goes off to the party with Bateman a young English banker he's just met. Throughout the evening however - punctuated by regular drug breaks in the bathroom - we discover that Syd's relationship problems involve more than friction with his girlfriend. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Crank (2006): A professional hit man Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) discovers that a poisonous injection threatens to kill him if his heart rate drops slows a certain point. Now he must exact his revenge on the people who injected him before he takes his last breath!

Seven travellers stranded in the Italian countryside accept the hospitality of a kindly castle lord, but what horror awaits them: the family has a curse on it that dooms the eldest daughter of each generation to become an agent of the devil, and guess who's coming home. After a striking opening scene (involving a Nazi officer in 1944 overseeing the birth of his child, which turns out to be... an accursed daughter!), this horror tale drags along at a glacial pace until the visitors settle in enough to take a little time out for sex, which serves as an appetiser to sadistic murders. The guests, ostensibly representative of the Seven Deadly Sins, die in appropriately thematic twists at first, though after gluttony, greed and lust the point gets stretched. This low-budget example of horrotica has its entertaining moments, an appropriately lurid style (courtesy of Belgian director Jean Brismee), and even an appearance by former French matinee idol Jean Servais (Beauty and the Beast). Included are trailers for this and three other Italian exploitation films and an extended introduction by British horror hostess Eileen Daly (which was actually recorded for a different film!), a black-leather Elvira with a whip and a penchant for kink that may not be to the tastes of all audiences. --Sean Axmaker, Amazon.com

With Willard White in the title role, this very well-sung production of Falstaff from the Aix-en-Provence festival, set in the 1950s, makes for a radical yet plausibly alternative view to the traditional setting in "Merrie England". By casting Jamaican-born baritone White in the title role, director Herbert Wernicke has emphasised Falstaff's role as an outsider, spurned by the community on account of his success as a local businessman and here with the added burden of being black. White engages our sympathy for Falstaff's plight, notably in the last act where he finally turns the table on his adversary, Ford. Yet in his world-weary sophisticated persona this Falstaff seems at odds with the farce unfolding about him; he's been there, done that. There are, nevertheless, key moments to relish: his flicker of the eye as he dismisses Pistol and Bardolph with his letters to the Misses Ford and Page; the duet he shares with Ford on the trials and tribulations of love; and the return of his self-esteem as he pulls himself up to full height following his ducking in the Thames. His face in the final act, shot in close-up, white beard illuminated by moonlight, framed by Herne's horns, is unforgettable. The supporting cast are uniformly excellent as singers and actors, a joy to watch and hear. The main set consists of a polished wooden floor with walls of wooden slatted flaps that open and shut as characters drop in and out of the action. White linen on washing lines, sheets tumbling out of drawers, or, somewhat incongruously, neatly folded on the bed that Falstaff rolls out of after his dip in the Thames, make welcome visual diversions. The Orchestre de Paris play brilliantly under maestro Enrique Mazzola who captures the ebb and flow of Verdi's fast moving score to perfection. On the DVD: Falstaff on disc has subtitles in Italian, English, German, French and Spanish. The picture quality has a real three-dimensional feel to it and the soundtrack likewise. --Adrian Edwards

After director Alex Cox alienated the powers that be in Hollywood with Straight to Hell and Walker his anarchic follow-ups to Repo Man and Sid and Nancy it would be nearly a decade before he made a film in the United States again. After making the critically acclaimed underseen Highway Patrolman in Mexico he agreed to direct The Winner based on the play A Darker Purpose by Wendy Riss. Vincent D'Onofrio stars as Philip a soft-spoken rather dimwitted young man who stumbles into an incredible lucky streak in Las Vegas. Every Sunday he enters the same casino wins some money and goes home. While Philip himself is pretty nonchalant about his lucky streak it earns him the attention of a lot of unsavory characters. Louise (Rebecca De Mornay who also executive produced the film) a tacky nightclub singer and her impotent hitman boyfriend Jack (Billy Bob Thornton) plan to get Philip to fall in love with Louise and offer her a fortune to pay off her debt to the sinister seemingly omnipotent Kingman (Delroy Lindo) the casino owner who employs Jack. A small-time hood Joey (Frank Whaley) and his motley crew (Richard Edson and Saverio Guerra) plan to rip Philip off but their plans are complicated when the antic impulsively violent Joey begins to feel a strange attraction to his would-be prey. Wolf (Michael Madsen) Philip's thuggish brother (and Louise's former lover) arrives in town practically guaranteeing some kind of violent showdown. After shooting the film Cox returned to Mexico to work on his next project. While he was away the producers then re-edited The Winner without his consent and replaced the film's soundtrack. Cox has since distanced himself from the final product.
