  Prankster Dom Joly adds a marvellously surreal edge to the hidden camera show in Trigger Happy TV, all of whose episodes are set to a great soundtrack of downbeat anthems. Joly not only waylays unsuspecting members of the public and minor celebrities, he subjects them to any number of odd or downright bizarre scenarios. Among many other gems here we have the millionth customer at the sex shop, the MI6 recruiting officer whose potential recruitee is frighteningly willing to become an assassin, the infuriating traffic warden ("You can't park here"), the workmen who eat and sleep in the middle of the street, the cultured punk, the obvious burglar, the park warden who eats all the birds, and the ice cream man who is incapable of serving anything. Best of all, perhaps, are the creature features: the snail literally crawling across the zebra crossing, the vain gorilla-gram, not to mention sundry sadistic squirrels, dangerous dogs and randy rabbits. Oh yes, and there's still that guy with the huge mobile phone, though it must have been increasingly hard for Joly to find anyone who didn't know that character already. Trigger Happy TV gamely exploits the British public's unwillingness to confront strangers, but it also hearteningly demonstrates their innate politeness when placed in awkward situations. In how many other countries could he approach people in the street to insult and bemuse them without running a serious risk of assault? --Mark Walker

His only outlet is hip-hop. Possessing a talent for freestyle rapping Rabbit still hasn't managed to unleash his true potential. But his best friend Future (Mekhi Phifer) is determined to make that happen. Future forces Rabbit to enter a freestyle battle that he blew the week before giving him another chance at redemption. Hanson's stellar portrait of lower-class urban disillusionment shot with uncompromisingly gritty realism by Rodrigo Prieto proves that the issue is no longer about race it's about money. Eminem delivers a bold performance as the troubled youngster who is still trying to find his place in a harsh cruel world. Boyz N The Hood (1991): Boyz N The Hood is the critically acclaimed story about three friends growing up in a South Central Los Angeles neighborhood and of street life where friendship pain danger and love combine to form reality. ""The Hood"" is a place where drive-by shootings and unemployment are rampant. But it is also a place where harmony co-exists with adversity especially for the three young men growing up there: Doughboy (Ice Cube) an unambitious drug dealer; his brother Ricky (Morris Chestnut) a college-bound teenage father; and Ricky's best friend Tre (Cuba Gooding Jr.) who aspires to a brighter future beyond the ""The Hood."" Among the characters that act as forces in the lives of these three students are Professor Phillips and long-term student Fudge who serve as positive role models as this provocative portrait of modern life builds to its searing and shocking climax.

  High Lonesome (1995) is a made-for-TV movie, otherwise known as A Father for Charlie. It's set in the American South in the Depression and tells of the friendship between Walter, a black sharecropper (Louis Gossett Jr) and Charlie, a small white boy. Though the film's motives are honourable in its attempt at dealing with white racism, the story is implausible in its assumptions (would a black man have been allowed to foster a white boy at that time?) and deeply sentimental, not least in the last-minute conversion of the virulently racist local sheriff. On the DVD: The quality of the sound and image is adequate, but there are no extras apart from trailers. --Ed Buscombe
