Titles Comprise: The Railrodder The Silent Partner Joseph Frank Buster Keaton (October 4 1895 - February 1 1966) was an Academy Award-winning American comic actor and filmmaker. Best known for his silent films his trademark was physical comedy with a stoic deadpan expression on his face earning him the nickname The Great Stone Face (referencing the Nathaniel Hawthorne story about the Old Man of the Mountain). He has also been called The Michelangelo of Silent Comedy. Keaton's career as a performer and director is widely considered to be among the most innovative and important work in the history of cinema. He was recognized as the seventh greatest director of all time by Entertainment Weekly. A 2002 world-wide poll by Sight and Sound ranked Keaton's The General as the 15th best film of all time. Three other Keaton films received votes in the survey: Our Hospitality Sherlock Jr. and The Navigator. We are pleased to present to you two of Buster Keaton's lesser seen works: The Railrodder A screen short starring Buster Keaton this is one of the last films of the comedian's long career. As the railrodder he crosses Canada from east to west on a railway track speeder. As might be expected the film is full of sight gags as Keaton putt-putts his way to British Columbia. Not a word is spoken throughout and Keaton is as spry and ingenious at fetching laughs as he was in the days of the silent slapsticks. The Silent Partner A seldom seen episode of the NBC anthology series Screen Directors Playhouse entitled The Silent Partner and originally broadcast on December 21 1955. Comedic genius Buster Keaton plays a former silent-film star named Kelsey Dutton. Dutton watches the Academy Awards on television in a bar; in flashbacks Keaton re-enacts Dutton's silent comedies. The silent-film parody is close enough to Keaton's old work to be poignant and funny yet different enough to be part of Dutton's character. This interesting and rare show features Zasu Pitts Joe E. Brown Jack Elam and Bob Hope.

Thumb Wars is a parody of Star Wars in which all the characters are played by real human thumbs with equally real human eyes and mouths grafted onto them through the wonders of computerised image tweakery. Obvious, really. If you're a fan of the toy and puppets dramas on The Adam and Joe Show or, frankly, even if you're not, you'll love this. Quite apart from the inherent wonderful silliness of mastermind Steve Oedekerk's creations, the mickey-taking is of a high order as Loke Groundrunner, Hand Duet and Princess Bunhead, aided by Oobedoob Benubi, battle the forces of the evil Thumbpire (the stormtroopers wear thimbles) in order to destroy the "big dangerous weapon thing that can blow stuff up". Along the way, Luke and Oobedoop replay Bunhead's holographic message while lying on the floor so they can look up her dress, the two robots have sex and Hand Duet insists on being paid in girly giggles. The eventual destruction of the "big dangerous weapon thing" will have you in stitches, with Groundrunner attempting to use "the power of the Thumb" while the spirit of Oobedoob urges him to "use the instrument panel, Luke--that's what it's there for". --Roger Thomas

Before there was Dick Cavett the talk show host there was Dick Cavett the comedian. Cavett's early career as a writer for Jack Paar and Johnny Carson naturally led him into the world of stand-up comedy where his contemporaries were the likes of Woody Allen and Bill Cosby. Cavett would later welcome both to The Dick Cavett Show. Cavett's comedian guests were by no means limited to his contemporaries. Cavett developed warm personal relationships with people like Groucho Marx Bob Hope and Jack Benny. These great raconteurs and storytellers had some of their finest moments in Cavett's studio where they found a unique forum that didn't necessarily require them to be funny. But of course they simply couldn't be anything else. On this fantastic four disc box set we feature 12 episodes of this timeless show featuring some of the biggest legends in American comedy featuring: Woody Allen Lucille Ball Jack Benny Carol Burnett Mel Brooks George Burns Bill Cosby Bob Hope Jerry Lewis Groucho Marks The Smothers Brothers plus an all new interview with Dick himself.

Father Vassey (Michael Rooker) has a problem. Using his two 9mm, laser-sighted cannons, he has tracked down and killed the holders of a heretic ceremony meant to bring a demon into the world. Not just any demon, for this one's reason to be is nothing less than uncreating creation. The problem is, Vassey's too late. The demon has manifested and escaped, and is now on the hunt for the soul of a young boy who is believed to be saint material, due to the stigmata he had at birth. The film is directed by Jamie Dixon, heretofore a special effects supervisor, who shows canny restraint where special effects are concerned. The shadowy demon of the title is depicted often by a fluid black cloud, which is functional without losing its eeriness or credibility. The acting is solid, never campy, though Michael Rooker sometimes feels out of place. And the climactic scenes, built up to with good pacing, are fraught with peril and excitement. All in all, this is a worthwhile effort for a first-time director, and that makes it one of the best direct-to-video releases I've seen in quite a long time. I just wish I could locate the Bram Stoker story it's supposed to be based on. --Jim Gay, Amazon.com
