Written by John Byrne for the BBC Play for Today series this is a semi- autobiographical tale set in a Paisely carpet factory in the late 1950's. Spanky (Gerard Kelly) and Hector (Mark Windsor) are the apprentice designers - the Slab Boys - whose job is to mix the dyes for the carpet designers. They toil away strutting and skiving each plotting his escape. A mixture of hilarity high jinks and sobering realism this coming of age tale has played in theatres all over Britain has inspired a movie spawned an recent theatre sequel and is an absolute classic.
Robert Duvall stars as the manager of a second rate Scottish football team in this drama about a man who must battle his own demons while taking on the club's American owner (Michael Keaton).
