This explosive DVD was shot at multiple shows earlier this year with the majority of the footage taken from the Chicago show on July 25th. The live tracks on the DVD are intercut with behind the scenes documentary footage shot throughout the world (including Iceland Dubai and Europe). So this is not a straightforward concert DVD from beginning to end and actually makes for some really cool viewing. The majority of the audio on the CD (tracks 1-11) is original music created by the band's guitarist Michael Einziger. It's mostly instrumental but does feature other musicians and band members. The music is used to score the documentary footage on the DVD. As a bonus the CD includes 6 Incubus live tracks lifted from the DVD disc. Tracklisting: DVD: 1. Rogues 2. Quicksand 3. A Kiss To Send Us Off 4. Anna Molly 5. Redefine 6. Pistola 7. Love Hurts 8. Paper Shoes 9. Megalomaniac 10. Nebula 11. Earth To Bella Part 1 12. Sick Sad Little World 13. Oil and Water 14. Dig 15. Having set out to make a version of rock music thats a step apart from the norm, its perhaps no surprise that Incubus Volume 2 should be such a groundbreaking release. Clocking in at two-and-a-half hours, the package is spectacular value for money. The combination of live, video and documentary footage may not be new, but the presentation is remarkably original. Filmed over a period of two years, this captures a band in development, honing their unique mix of metal, hip-hop and more cultural influences. The live material is intense, the videos visionary and the interviews proof that Brandon Boyd and co are a cut above your average brainless rock outfit--as indeed is this release. On the DVD: for once heres a release that utilises the true potential of the DVD format. Its a truly interactive experience, inviting the viewer to explore the material on offer, as opposed to just pressing play and sitting back. This means its possible to return to the disc over and over again without stumbling across the same sections twice. An Incubus slot machine throws up random sections and its easy to become lost in the music as you move from acoustic tracks to a comedy performance on US TV. A massive song index ties the whole thing together and the result is a music DVD that sets a new standard for others to follow. --Phil Udell
Incubus have reached multi-platinum status with their unique fusion of hip-hop electronica and grunge sounds. Recorded during their whirlwind 2007 Light Grenades Tour this programme offers a stellar collection of live concert performances and intimate behind-the-scenes footage. This Incubus' most up-to-date work proves the group is exploring uncharted territory of its own. A novel element on this disc is travel footage from the tour including images from Israel Dubai and London as well as peculiarly beautiful surreal shots of Iceland. Formed in 1991 in San Fernando Valley (California) Incubus rose to become one of the most popular alt-metal bands of the new millennium setting themselves apart from a crowded field with a somewhat less-negative outlook and tireless touring.
