Yesterday, everyone knew The Beatles. Today, only Jack remembers their songs. He's about to become a very big deal. From Academy Award®-winning director DANNY BOYLE (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) and RICHARD CURTIS, the Oscar®-nominated screenwriter of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and Notting Hill, comes a rock 'n' roll comedy about music, dreams, friendship, and the long and winding road that leads to the love of your life. Jack Malik (HIMESH PATEL, BBC's EastEnders) is a struggling singer-songwriter in a tiny English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and support of his childhood best friend, Ellie (LILY JAMES, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again). Then, after a freak bus accident during a mysterious global blackout, Jack wakes up to discover that The Beatles have never existed and he finds himself with a very complicated problem indeed. Performing songs by the greatest band in history to a world that has never heard them, and with a little help from his steel-hearted American agent, Debra (Emmy Award winner KATE MCKINNON, TV's Saturday Night Live), and his kind-but-wildly-unreliable roadie Rocky (JOEL FRY, HBO's Game of Thrones), Jack's fame explodes. But as his star rises, he risks losing Elliethe one person who always believed in him. With the door between his old and new life closing, Jack will need to get back to where he once belonged and prove that all you need is love.

Carry On Up the Jungle has worn less well than some of the others in the series, simply because the African exploration genre it parodies--with its cannibals, great white hunters and lost Amazon tribes--is so entirely out of fashion. Still, Frankie Howerd made so comparatively few films that one which has him as an ornithologist searching for rare birds in the company of Joan Sims and Sid James is not going to be entirely without interest; he has few great moments here, but runs through his usual repertoire of groans and horse-faced sorrowful expressions with brio. The idea of Terry Scott playing Tarzan is in itself such a good joke that it hardly matters that most of what follows is him swinging, on ropes, into obstacles. On the DVD: The DVD has no special features whatever. It is presented in 1.77:1 ratio with mono sound. --Roz Kaveney

What kind of guy was the wizard Merlin, anyway? He lives a long time, raises a boy to be a king, props up a Utopian empire with his magic and wisdom, and then watches as it all crumbles under such banal forces as vengeance and betrayal. This four-hour mini-series re-tells the story of Camelot and King Arthur from the perspective of the magic man who sacrifices a great deal to guide mortals toward a better destiny. Sam Neill plays Merlin as an accessible, flesh-and-blood fellow of real passion, powerless to undo the spell of a rival (Rutger Hauer) who has virtually imprisoned Merlin's great love, Nimue (Isabella Rossellini), but gifted enough to counter the treachery of Morgan Le Fey (Helena Bonham Carter) and the wicked Queen Mab (Miranda Richardson). The battle sequences and special effects are striking and original, and it is great fun to see such art-house movie actors as Richardson, Carter, Neill, etc., in fantasy entertainment the whole family can enjoy. (An unrecognizable Martin Short must be singled out, however, for a wonderful, largely dramatic performance as Mab's sidekick, Frik.) Directed by Steve Barron (The Adventures of Pinocchio), Merlin is a nice bit of glossy revisionism of a beloved legend. --Tom Keogh

Following the 1942 Bataan Death March thousands of U.S. and Filipino soldiers were imprisoned by the Japanese in a POW camp in Cabantauan in the Philippines. Brutalized starved and tortured the prisoners languished in the camp for nearly three years. But in January 1945 an American battalion with the help of Filipino guerrillas planned a daring mission - some called it suicide - to rescue the five hundred U.S. soldiers still alive there. This film tells that story in glorious detail. The story is based on two books The Great Raid: Rescuing The Doomed Ghosts Of Bataan And Corregidor by William B. Breuer and Ghost Soldiiers: The Epic Account Of World War II's Greatest Rescue Mission by Hampton Sides. In addition several men involved in the raid served as consultants on the project. The result is a thrilling agonizing and unforgettable war movie like they used to make in the 1940s and 1950s a celebration of the human spirit. The Great Raid stars Benjamin Bratt as Lt. Colonel Mucci an offbeat military man who puts his faith in young Captain Prince (James Franco) to lead the dangerous mission. Among the men imprisoned in the camp are Joseph Fiennes as the ailing Major Gibson and Marton Csokas as Captain Redding who is always trying to escape. Connie Nielsen adds romantic tension as a war widow smuggling much-needed medicine into the camp.
