This Naxos Musical Journey travels straight to the heart of two of Mozart's most sublime compositions--the Piano Concertos Nos. 13 and 20--by showing the maestro's birthplace, Salzburg, in all its beauty and splendour. The performances by soloist Jeno Jando and Concentus Hungaricus led by conductor Andras Ligeti (taken from a Naxos audio CD), are most appealing, and the music is a wonderful accompaniment to the glorious footage of Salzburg and its environs. Highlights of this spectacular travelogue include the Mozart Museum; the composer's boyhood home; and, from the surrounding countryside, the Lake Weissensee resort and the ever-awesome Alps. Only a soundtrack of Mozart's music could be the equal of such stunning visuals. Lone quibble: the disc's "travel notes" (briefly describing places "visited" during each concerto's movement) would be more helpful if they could be accessed while viewing the programme. --Kevin Filipski
