There are some filmmaking teams that invariably bring out the best in each other, and that's definitely the case with director Carroll Ballard and cinematographer Caleb Deschanel. They previously collaborated on The Black Stallion and Never Cry Wolf, and Fly Away Home is their third family film that deserves to be called a classic. Inspired by Bill Lishman's autobiography, the movie tells the story of a 13-year-old girl (Anna Paquin) who goes to live with her estranged, eccentric father (Jeff Daniels) following the death of her mother. At first she's withdrawn and reclusive, but finds renewed happiness when she adopts an orphaned flock of baby geese and, later, teaches them to migrate using an ultralight. Sensitively directed and stunningly photographed, the movie has flying sequences that are nothing short of astonishing, and Daniels and Paquin (Oscar winner for The Piano) make a delightful father-daughter duo. --Jeff Shannon

Four episodes each telling a different story. They are dramatic renactments based on true stories that have been uncovered amongst all the papyrus and manuscripts found in Egyptian ruins. Ancient Egyptians brings these real people and their world to life as compelling stories combining drama feature film special effects and in-depth historical research; this is the first time it will be recreated in such vivid and authentic detail. The Battle Of Megiddo: May 19th 1458 BC: a rebel Syrian warlord challenges the might of Egypt. On a plain below the city of Megiddo the two greatest armies the ancient world has ever seen prepare to fight. The fate of Egypt lies in the hands its young Pharaoh who has never before seen battle. This is a true story. The chronicle of this epic struggle was carved into the stone walls of the Temple of Karnak over three and a half thousand years ago. It records how a pampered prince was transformed by war - and turned his kingdom into an empire. He became Egypt's greatest warrior Pharaoh Tuthmosis III. The Tomb Robber's Tale: October 1111 BC: the holy city of Thebes is rocked by scandal. The tombs of the Pharaohs are being plundered of priceless treasure. A labourer called Amenpanufer is arrested for tomb robbery and tortured. Three thousand years later the records of his trial still survive. But this is no ordinary criminal case. It's the true story of the greatest tomb robbing scandal in Egypt's history. The poor quarryman is just a fall guy hauled in to cover up a web of lies and corruption - but he knows enough to bring down the most powerful men in Egypt. Murder In The Temple: March 632 BC: in the temple of Teudjoi in Middle Egypt a group of priests gather to plot a murder. For decades they've suffered under the brutal reign of a powerful outsider Petiese the cousin of Egypt's new Pharaoh. Now the time has come for revenge against his unsuspecting family: his daughter son-in-law and their two young boys. The story of this tragic family saga has survived for two and a half thousand years. Set against the backdrop of a nation in turmoil it's the story of a thirty year feud that tears apart a city and brings down one of the most powerful dynasties in Egypt. The Twins' Tale: Egypt 164 BC: two children twin girls are plucked from poverty to become virgin priestesses of the Apis Bull cult. Their mother has abandoned them and their father has been murdered. As handmaidens to the dead bull they may be saved from a life of poverty and prostitution - but not if their mother has her way. The true story of the sacred twins is told in a letter they wrote to the Pharaoh over two thousand years ago. It's a tragic tale of greed and betrayal that unfolds in the shadowy underworld of the great temple city of Saqqara in the last decades of the Egyptian empire.

It's The Italian Job so obviously I head to Kent in England for the race of a lifetime. But first I have to get ready. So it's the Fiorano test track in Italy where I spend a while not getting ready at all. I try the gym but it's all rubbish so instead I decide to compare Ferrari's 458 Italia and the limited edition 599 GTO. On paper that doesn't seem fair. But in reality.... Next stop is the infamous Imola race circuit. The Stig joins me to get the most out of the Porsche GT3 and its stripped out cousin the GT3 RS. Also present are the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera and the jaw-dropping Mercedes SLS AMG with its gullwing doors. My face gets a workout too thanks to an Ariel Atom. With a V8 engine. Then for some reason The Stig does something terrible to the face of Rubens Barrichello. My final Italian shake-down comes from the '1.3 million Nurburgring lap record holder - the Zonda R with its 750 horsepower V12 and slick tyres. Finally I'm ready. So it's back to England for my first ever Classic Touring Car Race...I don't know the car I don't know the circuit and I'm up against 20 experienced rivals...What could possibly go wrong?

  • Orgazmo [1999]Orgazmo | DVD | (20/03/2000) from £12.78   |  Saving you £3.20 (32.69%)   |  RRP £12.99

South Park co-creator Trey Parker goes straight for the gross-out humour in this live-action farce set in the adult-movie industry. Parker stars as an innocent Mormon kid who gets sucked into the world of pornographic film-making and becomes an international sensation as the stud superhero Orgazmo, all the while hiding his secret life from his milk-fed fiancée. It's practically a one-man show for Parker, who directs, writes, stars, and even performs the self-penned theme song as frontman for his rock band, and perhaps he should have spread the responsibilities a little. As an actor he's surprisingly appealing--his dazed grin and bleached white surfer-dude hair give him an engaging air of innocence. Paired with long-time crony Dian Bachar, the diminutive actor who plays his superhero sidekick Chodo Boy, they bring a Hardy Boys naiveté to the rude world of mobbed-up producers and jaded adult film stars. But the film is only fitfully funny, with vulgar jokes that are often more disgusting than humorous and clumsy comic timing sabotaging promising scenes. Only rarely does it reach the heights of his hilarious cut-out cartoon series South Park, but when he delivers he does so with the carefully cultivated tasteless excess his fans have come to know and love. Matt Stone co-stars as a clueless photographer while the real-life adult film star Ron Jeremy appears as a gross gangster henchman. --Sean Axmaker, Amazon.com
