Christina Aguilera - My Reflection | DVD | (28/07/2003)
from £7.24
| Saving you £-0.25 (N/A%)
| RRP Christina Aguilera's My Reflection is a mirror that shows where the teen-pop diva's going (toward grown-up diva-dom as an R&B star) and where she's been (showcasing her navel on a dance-infused tour). Aguilera's first concert video shows that what this "girl" really wants is to move beyond the bouncy R&B-flavoured pop she's known for. Her cheeky hits ("Genie in a Bottle", "Come On Over Baby", "What a Girl Wants") are followed by songs from Mi Reflejo, her Spanish-language album and My Kind of Christmas, her holiday release. She has sweet duets with R&B legend Dr John on "Merry Christmas, Baby" and balladeer Brian McKnight on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", as well as sharing the stage with rapper Lil' Bow Wow (weird, but it works) on "So Emotional" and "Christmas Time". (Quick behind-the-scenes interviews from MTV's Diary punctuate the concert.) Despite her inability to resist over-the-top vocal histrionics, Aguilera's range is impressive, whether she's performing a spirated rendition of Free's 1970 hit "All Right Now" or belting out Etta James's 1961 classic "At Last" after giving the blues singer a heartfelt tribute. --Valerie J Nelson, Amazon.com

The Last Time I Committed Suicide | DVD | (10/03/2003)
from £14.95
| Saving you £-8.96 (N/A%)
| RRP Thomas Jane stars as Beat writer and Jack Kerouac-crony Neal Cassady in The Last Time I Committed Suicide, a promising film that quickly flops. Based on a letter Cassady wrote to Kerouac, this highly stylised feature from director Stephen Kay pretty much follows the former around as he does not much of anything at all. Keanu Reeves is incomprehensible as a friend of Cassady, and Kay's jazzy, angular, colliding style does nothing to illuminate the Beat icon's all-important internal life. If you're new to the whole Kerouac-Cassady-Beat world, this is not a good first stop; slightly better is John Byrum's 1980 Heart Beat, which at least introduces some of the principal figures. --Tom Keogh
