The Astronaut's Wife On a seemingly routine mission to repair a space satellite, astronaut Spencer Armacost (Depp) loses contact with Mission Control for a period of time. Once Spencer has returned to Earth his wife Jillian (Charlize Theron) falls pregnant with twin boys, but her joy is tempered by the suspicion that something terrible happened to her husband in space - something which could threaten the entire human race. Dark Shadows When playboy Barnabas Collins (Depp) breaks the heart of the beautiful Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green), an old family curse is released as Angelique, a witch, turns Barnabas into a vampire before burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. Returning to his former home at Collinwood Manor, he finds his estate in ruins and the dysfunctional dregs of his family in tatters. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has enlisted the services of live-in psychiatrist Dr Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter) to help with her numerous family problems - but between Elizabeth's loser brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller), her rebellious teenage daughter, Carolyn Stoddard (Chlo? Moretz), and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath), Dr Hoffman has certainly got her work cut out. Sweeny Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' (2007), Tim Burton's film version of the Stephen Sondheim musical, is based on a 'penny dreadful' tale (which later became an urban myth) from the mid-19th Century. The story centres around Benjamin Barker (Depp), a barber who returns to London after spending years in exile for a crime he didn't commit. He soon discovers from pie-maker Mrs Lovett (Bonham Carter) that, in his absence, his wife has taken her own life and his daughter is now in the care of the man who had him sent away - the dastardly Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman). Seeking revenge and filled with a murderous rage, Barker sets up a barber's shop above Mrs Lovett's premises. Now calling himself Sweeney Todd, Barker kills off all his customers with a razor to the throat and sends their cadavers to the shop below to be used as a tasty new filling for Mrs Lovett's meat pies. What was once the worst pie shop in London quickly becomes one of the city's most popular eateries, but Barker won't be satisfied until he can lure Judge Turpin into the barber's chair... Don Juan DeMarco Marlon Brando plays a psychiatrist whose last case, that of Don Juan (Depp), is his most difficult. Don Juan is the world's greatest lover, having seduced over 1000 women, and his amorous tales totally captivate the analyst, re-awakening passions which he thought had been lost forever.

  • Jackass - The Complete [2002]Jackass - The Complete | DVD | (11/08/2003) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £34.99

This box set contains Jackass: The Movie plus Volumes 2 and 3 of Jackass the TV show. Jackass is very probably the most perfectly named programme in the history of television. The cult MTV hit is the sort of exceedingly stupid thing that can only be the work of clever people; in this case, a collection of old-enough-to-know-better delinquents who appear to have taken the wisdom about the dumbing-down of popular culture as a challenge. The difference between Jackass and most dumb things on television is that other dumb things on television like to pretend that they're arch, or clever, or at the very least camp. Jackass makes no such pretensions, and for this reason it is incredibly liberating and funny. There is no subtext to any of this. Johnny Knoxville and company think of something supremely idiotic to do, and do it. We see them riding down hills on ice blocks, inviting a fire crew to turn their hoses on them, and trying to ride bicycles around a 360-degree wooden loop while dressed as chickens. That only one cast member ends up hospitalised is little short of miraculous, and surely proof that God loves his clowns. --Andrew Mueller

This two-hour film tells the incredible story of one of the greatest artists and most important R&B groups of all time. Also included in the documentary are 22 complete vintage television performances from The Impressions and Curtis Mayfield's solo career filmed between 1965 and 1973. In addition to telling the history of Curtis Mayfield as an artist and the Impressions as a group the film explores how The Impressions' music was a virtual soundtrack for the civil rights era in the '60s. In an interview filmed exclusively for the documentary civil rights leader Ambassador Andrew Young (who worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.) speaks about the effect classic Impressions songs such as People Get Ready Choice of Colours and We're A Winner had on the movement and how often their songs were sung for inspiration in churches and during marches (some led by Dr. King.) The film also shows how Curtis Mayfield's solo work helped define the early '70s. Chuck D leader of the rap group Public Enemy provides context about Curtis's music as a soundtrack to the grim realities of urban life culminating with his 1972 masterpiece Superfly. In addition Carlos Santana speaks about Curtis Mayfield's unique genius as a songwriter artist and teacher and also comments on the spiritual nature of his music. Also featured in the film are Impressions Fred Cash and Sam Gooden who discuss the history of the group beginning with their origins in the late '50s and share incredible stories about many of their classic songs as well as give insight into Curtis as a songwriter. In addition producer/arranger Johnny Pate speaks about the recording process of their classic songs and reminisces about the Impressions in the studio. Altheida Mayfield Curtis's widow provides tender insight into the personal side of Curtis including his inspirations and aspirations as well as stories about Curtis as a husband and family man. Curtis Mayfield himself speaks through several archival interviews filmed throughout his career.
