  This 1997 thriller For Hire ponders the question of what terrible things a person might be persuaded to do, given the right circumstances and the right price. Rob Lowe plays Mitch, a Chicago cab driver trying to make it as an actor, married to the pregnant Faye. Among his clients are bestselling writer Lou Weber (Joe Mantegna), who befriends Mitch and confides in him that a drug dealer is trying to kill him. Over the next few days, Mitch begins to suffer severe stomach pains, collapsing in Weber's apartment after a fare and is diagnosed with inoperable stomach cancer. With only a short time to live, he decides to take up Weber's offer to rub out his drug dealer stalker for $50,000, a nest egg for his family after he's gone. A not entirely unpredictable twist follows, hinted at by the Lucifer-like beard sported by Mantegna and the film alights only briefly to meditate on the potential for evil in all of us before resuming its journey along conventional, though certainly passable Hollywood thriller lines.   Fans of Latino gusset-dampener Ricky Martin will need no encouragement to buy One Night Only other than knowing it exists, so it’s commendable to see that what they will get is a pretty good package after all. On the down side, without the kind of slick studio production accorded to his albums it’s clear that Martin’s voice is, well, rather ordinary. But on the up side, he’s beautiful, he’s great fun, he’s not short on stage presence and his enthusiasm for the Latin music of his native Puerto Rico is entirely genuine (one of the brief reportage snippets scattered throughout this release shows him playing with a samba band--and getting it right, too). There’s a spooky moment in the opening number of this huge gig (which took place in Liberty State Park in New York) as the backdrop artfully falls to reveal the twin towers of the World Trade Center framing Martin like Samson’s pillars. Once this frisson passes it’s good times all the way, with the inevitable "Vida Loca" and "La Copa De La Vida" as highlights. There are guest spots from Carlos Santana and Jose Feliciano. On the DVD: One Night Only comes with a 4:3 ratio picture and includes an excellent video of the already excellent "Shake Your Bon-Bon", plus a gallery of still photos. --Roger Thomas

Upset Vicky turns to Mike and at the same time a man appears to be following them. Vicky inherits everything from Arthur which leaves Arthur's two children very angry because they know that their father had changed his will but he hadn't been able to give it to his lawyer. Yet there is no sign of the new will and so Vicky gets everything.Vicky and Mike take off together for a while but after again realizing that they are being followed they go their separate ways until Mike starts to find clues on who had Arthur murdered. He confronts Vicky who tells him that she had no part of it and he believes her but then he sets himself up for his own death. A very strange movie.
