After the fall of King Gwanghae, Joseon' greatest swordsman and royal guard Tae-yul is forced into hiding. In the meantime, Joseon is caught between Qing and Ming dynasties' conflict, and is at the mercy of Qing's envoy and slave trade Kurutai's ridiculous demands. As general populace suffering deepens, Tae-yul's daughter is taken away as a tribute to Qing and although he wanted to live his remaining days in solace, Tae-yul has no choice but to unsheathe his sword and face the Qing foes in order to bring his daughter back.
Detective Han has for years been secretly doing dirty work for the corrupt mayor Park Sungbae. However, when an investigation is raised against the mayor, Detective Han is pressured by a ruthless prosecutor Kim Cha-in to cooperate. Feeling trapped, Han persuades his young partner Sunmo to take over his work for the mayor, but things start to get tangled in unpredictable ways. As things are getting worse, only the most evil survives in the dark and dangerous world.
Driving back from his mother's funeral homicide detective Ko Gun-su (Lee Sun-kyun) runs over a man in a dark rural street. In a moment of desperation he dumps the body in a coffin alongside his mother. A few days later Gun-su flips through a listing of open cases and finds his accident victim. His colleague is on the accident case and is slowly making progress. Making matters worse a witness steps forward - a detective named Park Chang-min (Cho Jin-Woong). For a reason unclear to Gun-su Park wants the body. Left without a choice Gun-su digs his mother's grave and retrieves the body only to find gunshot wounds on it. As Park's threats become more vicious and hits closer to home Gun-su decides to face Park head-on once and for all.
