His unique brand of rock 'n' roll catapulted him and the Crickets to national stardom in just three short years with hits such as 'That'll Be The Day' and 'Peggy Sue'. Despite opposition from the mainly redneck Texas community his mother who nagged him to get a proper job and his girlfriend who wanted to tame him - by the age of 22 Holly had it all but the trials and tribulations of fame began to take it's toll and his brilliant career ended in tragedy all too quickly. 'The Buddy Holly Story' is one of the best biopics ever produced for the cinema and features 12 of his greatest hit songs as well as winning the 1978 Academy Award for Best Adaptation Score. To Eliot’s mother, Rita, it’s a grand stage on which to present the accomplishments of her family to a waiting world. To her husband Victor, it’s an expensive party, getting more expensive every day. To Lesley, his sister, it means endless responsibility and pouring oil like a troubled daughter. To Grandad Wax it’s tradition. And to Rabbi Sherman it’s another Shabbat, another Bar Mitzvah over and time to put his feet up - or so he thinks... Witty, insightful, rich in irony and human observation, Bar Mitzvah Boy stands as one of Jack Rosenthal’s most famous and most popular plays, rich in universal humour and creating, in young Eliot and his mother, their friends and relatives, some of his most memorable characters.. • Chaplin [1991]Chaplin | DVD | (20/05/2002) from £10.92   |  Saving you £2.07 (18.96%)   |  RRP £12.99

Chaplin, Sir Richard Attenborough's biographical film of the life and times of the famous comic, is a little thin as a narrative, but it is so charmingly creative and ultimately moving that it's hard to worry about the deficits. Robert Downey Jr does an excellent job re-creating Chaplin's graceful slapstick and getting inside the silent-film superstar's head over the years of triumph, defeat, scandal, official persecution, exile and inner peace. A huge cast portray the allies, friends, lovers and enemies in Chaplin's life, including Moira Kelly as his final, long-time wife Oona, Kevin Kline as Douglas Fairbanks, Geraldine Chaplin as Charlie's mother and James Woods as a prosecutor working hard to nail Chaplin for anti-American sentiments. Attenborough declines to tell the story in a flat, linear way, employing such clever techniques as detailing one chapter in Chaplin's life as a silent comedy. The climactic scene set at an Oscar tribute for Chaplin will get the tears flowing. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com
