Set in Valco, a fictional supermarket in the north-west of England, Trollied is an eight-part sitcom that puts a comic twist on one of our most familiar surroundings.Acting deputy manager Julie (BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Jane Horrocks, Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice) struggles to assert her authority and fails at almost every attempt to make a good impression on store manager Gavin (Jason Watkins, Being Human). She also has something of a crush on Gavin, who manages to rebuff her clumsily executed flirtations - that is, if he's aware of them at all.Julie's many weaknesses include a significant lack of people skills, a source of amusement for butcher double-act Andy (Mark Addy, Game of Thrones, The Full Monty) and Kieran (Nick Blood, Material Girl). While Andy is a dedicated to the art of butchery, his young apprentice Kieran is bored of chops, mince and ribs. Similarly, at the checkout, a fed-up Katie (Chanel Cresswell, This Is England) dreams of going travelling. The only good thing about her job in Valco is the clear chemistry she has with Kieran.Meanwhile, new starter Margaret (Rita May, Coronation Street), a recruit of Valco's older person employment scheme, is a constant source of irritation to Julie and far from a natural on the tills.Filmed in a purpose-built, fully functional replica supermarket, Trollied is directed by Paul Walker (Shameless), scripted by a team of writers - Julie Rutterford (Shameless), Anne Marie O'Connor (Waterloo Road), Paul Doolan (Man Stroke Woman, Mongrels, Armstrong and Miller), Chris Haywood, Nat Saunders (Smack the Pony & Big Train) - and executive produced by BAFTA Award winner Ash Atalla (The IT Crowd, The Office) for Rough Cut TV.

When exploitation maestro Roger Corman decided to raise his game by hiring Vincent Price to star in an adaptation of a classic tale by Edgar Allan Poe he set in train a series of Poe adaptations that would redefine American horror cinema. When Philip Winthrop (Mark Damon) visits his fiancée Madeleine Usher (Myrna Fahey) in her crumbling family mansion her brother Roderick (Price) tries to talk him out of the wedding explaining that the Usher family is cursed and that extending its bloodline will only prolong the agony. Madeleine wants to elope with Philip but neither of them can predict what ruthless lengths Roderick will go to in order to keep them apart. Richard Matheson's intelligent literate script is enhanced by Floyd Crosby's stylish widescreen cinematography but it's Vincent Price's anguished conviction in one of his signature roles that makes the film so chillingly memorable over half a century on. Director Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead) tries gamely to recapture the exotic mysteries of spaghetti Westerns in this stylish but empty film, which stars Sharon Stone as a stranger who comes to the town of Redemption in time for an annual shooting contest. Her real motivations for being there are the stuff that might have found their way into a film by Sergio Leone--in fact, much of this film is a pastiche of Leone's greatest hits, including A Fistful of Dollars and Once upon a Time in America--but one can't quite believe Stone in the role. Gene Hackman gives a predictably solid performance as the town tyrant, and Leonardo DiCaprio is good as a lucky young gunslinger who gets to kiss the heroine. But not even the cast can help this failed project. Raimi brings a lot of razzle-dazzle to his camera work, but it doesn't make the film any more substantial. --Tom Keogh
