Top-class antics from the beautiful sextet of chums punctuate this excellent series, which climaxes with the wedding in London. The DVD version contains extra footage from the London locations and in-depth interviews with the makers of the series. Other core shenanigans of the series include Rachel's abortive attempts to seduce Josh, Phoebe's surrogate pregnancy, the Chandler-Joey-Kathy love triangle and Monica and Rachel's attempts to get their apartment back after they lose a bet with Joey and Chandler. Some of the not-quite-as-momentous-but-no-less-amusing events covered here include Joey trying to break his personal record for stuffing Oreo cookies in his mouth, the girls spending the afternoon in wedding dresses and Ross unveiling his indescribable "sound" on the synthesiser. --Leslie Felperin

  • Berlin [DVD]Berlin | DVD | (30/11/2009) from £11.25   |  Saving you £4.74 (42.13%)   |  RRP £15.99

Matt Frei explores the unique city of Berlin an artificial metropolis - one that has not grown organically but always been contrived and redefined. Throughout its history it has been a laboratory of human behaviour thought and art. What began as a provincial town in the 17th century on a central European marsh became the very image of the messy development of human-kind during the 20th century. It is a place whose history we all feel caught up in in some way. Even if we have never visited we all feel touched by events that have taken place there because they are the universal stories of our time. Here different layers of history have piled up roughly and chaotically. An experience of Berlin is never a chronological one - any walk through the city is a rollercoaster back and forth though the years. The city is much better conveyed by broad sweeps through history rather than in chronological episodes. This series tells three stories of Berlin - of the Ideas generated there its Buildings and its People. These three different journeys through the city are not a comprehensive history rather an attempt to reveal the spirit of Berlin.

Filmed in VIDECOLOR--[explosions, drum roll, music builds to a climax]--and SUPERMARIONATION"! The opening sequence of Thunderbirds is itself a masterclass in Gerry Anderson's marionette hyperbole: who else would dare to make a virtue out of the fact that (a)the show is in colour and (b) it's got puppets in it? But everything about this series really is epic: Thunderbirds is action on the grandest scale, pre-dating such high-concept Hollywood vehicles as Armaggedon by 30 years and more (the acting is better, too), and fetishising gadgets in a way that even the most excessive Bond movies could never hope to rival. Unsurprisingly, it transpires that the visual effects are by Derek Meddings, whose later contributions to Bond movies like The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker echo his pioneering model work here. As to the characters, the clean-cut Tracey boys take second place in the audience's affections to their cool machines--the real stars of the show--while comic relief is to be found in the charming company of Lady Penelope and her pink Rolls (number plate FAB1), driven by lugubrious chauffeur Parker, whose "Yes, milady" catchphrase resonated around school playgrounds for decades. (Spare a thought for poor old John Tracey, stuck up in space on Thunderbird 5 with only the radio for company.) The puppet stunt-work is breathtakingly audacious, and every week's death-defying escapade is nail-bitingly choreographed in the very best tradition of disaster movies. First shown in 1964 and now digitally remastered, Thunderbirds is children's TV that still looks and sounds like big-budget Hollywood. On this DVD: The four episodes are: "Vault of Death", "The Mighty Atom", "City of Fire" and "The Imposters". Amazon.com

Phase 1 After a lapse in her relationship with her lover (Katie Stegeman) forces twenty-something party girl Samantha (Najarra Townsend) to move back in with her overbearing mother (Caroline Williams, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), things seem to be at an all-time low. But the devil-may-care Samantha soon finds escape in a one-night stand with a mysterious man (Simon Barrett, V/H/S) who leaves her hung-over, guilt-ridden and infected. Uncertain of the disease or the man who gave it to her, Samantha attempts to hide it from her loved ones. But she soon realizes that she is not just the victim of an STD, but rather the host of something much more catastrophic, and that she and those around her are in mortal danger. Part zombie film and part body-horror shocker, director Eric England s CONTRACTED is a skin-crawling experience in biological horror. Phase 2 Picking up immediately after the events of the first film, Phase II follows Riley (Matt Mercer), now infected and running out of time, as he attempts to find out more about the virus and its mysterious host. As he digs deeper into its origins, Riley attracts the attention of a Detective (Marianna Palka, Good Dick) who doubts his innocence, and BJ(Morgan Peter Brown, Absentia) himself, who holds the key to the virus-and perhaps the destruction of mankind as we know it, leading to a blood-soaked finale you have to see to believe.
