  • Sting - All This Time [2001]Sting - All This Time | DVD | (03/12/2001) from £14.05   |  Saving you £0.94 (6.69%)   |  RRP £14.99

All This Time is a moving record of an exclusive live set performed by Sting and his 13-piece band at the end of their two-year Brand New Day tour. Following a week of intensive rehearsals and preparations for a global Web cast, the low-key concert was scheduled to be broadcast live to the world from Sting’s home in Tuscany on the evening of September 11, 2001. As is depicted in the accompanying 70-minute documentary, following intense agonising by Sting and his associates, the concert went ahead as mark of respect to the victims of the atrocities of this day. Starting the show with the sombre "Fragile" (which was the only track broadcast live on the internet due to the events of the day), the concert is made up of classic compositions from Sting and The Police. Reworked versions of songs such as "All This Time", "Fields of Gold", "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" and "Every Breath You Take" are all featured. The documentary captures the personalities of all those involved and highlights the joyous occasion the concert should have been. Some may be put off by Sting’s apparent laid back behaviour on stage but there’s something rather endearing watching him sip from a mug in-between songs. On The DVD: both the concert and the documentary footage is stunning, with the high resolution and quality of the DVD conveying the rich colours of the event. The excellent audio recording, adds to the intimacy of both the run-up to, and the actual concert itself. Added interactive features in the documentary allow access to the concert and exclusive dress-rehearsal footage. Three bonus live performances of "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic", "Fill Her Up" and "Englishman in New York" (which can only be accessed from the main menu) are also included. The documentary and live performance can be played as one feature or separately, with direct access to individual songs or chapters. --John Galilee

  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Silent) [1923]The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Silent) | DVD | (16/11/2009) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £9.99

Lon Chaney, the man of a thousand faces, was best known for playing Quasimodo and the Phantom of the Opera. But the former role in The Hunchback of Notre Dame was clearly the most ambitious of his illustrious career, full of such longing and anguish. It's as though his entire being was consumed by this ugly outcast with a heart as big and beautiful as Notre Dame itself. And the makeup is still astonishing. The rest of this unrequited love story is pretty effective as well, with the re-creation of medieval Paris a standout for its lavishness. Like all great silent films, it delivers a poetry of life that is abstract and tangible at the same time. --Bill Desowitz

  • The Relic [1997]The Relic | DVD | (25/02/2002) from £10.33   |  Saving you £2.65 (36.10%)   |  RRP £9.99

The Relic is the story of a monster that runs amok in a Chicago museum on the very day the institution is holding a glitzy reception. Naturally, the museum bosses want to go ahead with their public relations even as the creature is decapitating victims. Penelope Ann Miller plays a scientist on the run from the critter (which is at times computer generated and reminiscent of the raptors in Jurassic Park), and Tom Sizemore is a cop looking for his cold-blooded (in every sense) killer. Peter Hyams (Timecop) directs, and as always he excels at managing the plastic action at the cost of real feeling and logic. (Much of the story is pretty laughable.) --Tom Keogh

It was always going to be a challenge to move a show whose premise effectively fitted comfortably inside a single series to a third season. And so perhaps inevitably, Prison Break moves the action back to the slammer, this time in Panama. It proves to be a wise choice, as, while plausibility has long since been thrown out of the window, it’s a more natural setting for the show. Prison Break still follows brothers Lincoln and Michael Burrows, but this time there’s a far tougher prison that needs to be broken out of. It’s a little less claustrophobic than the last one, but more dangerous. And along with the usual terrific supporting cast of characters, the tension, twists and violence that underpin the show are all very much present and correct. Powering Prison Break forwards, of course, is the pin-up star Wentworth Miller, who owns his role as Michael, and grounds many of the show’s extremities. And while it’s a shorter season than the first two, this third run still manages to cram in some strong entertainment. Perhaps season three isn’t Prison Break’s finest hour, and perhaps the concept has diluted somewhat since the show first began. But this is still really good, assured entertainment, that knows what it wants to do and simply gets on with it. For that alone, it remains a show hard to resist. --Jon Foster
