When fate places Remy in the sewers of Paris he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero Auguste Gusteau. Determined to end his losing streak the bespectacled Little joins the baseball team even though he can barely lift the bat. Luckily his three equally outcast friends have faith in him: a pig with a yen for '70s disco (Steve Zahn); a Harpo Marx-esque goldfish in a diving helmet; and Abby a buck-toothed female duckling (Joan Cusak). According to her sources in magazines such as Modern Mallard Abby is sure Chicken Little merely needs ""closure"" with dad over the sky incident. But when the sky really does start falling due to a full-on alien invasion and only Chicken Little knows why dad still doesn't want to believe him...

| RRP Big Jake is not one of the Duke's classics, but it's a diverting picture nonetheless. Everyone seems to think that Jacob McCandles is six-feet under ("I thought you was dead" is a running line throughout), so some bad men kidnap his grandson. They want a piece of the family fortune and will kill to get it. Patrick Wayne, the Duke's own son, plays one of Big Jake's kids, and together they start out after the boy's abductors. Richard Boone makes a worthy adversary to Jake's larger-than-life figure, and the final confrontation between the two contains some great gritted-teeth dialogue. Maureen O'Hara is barely in the feature, sharing the same fate as Bobby Vinton as the boy's father, who seems to be onscreen just to get shot. --Keith Simanton

Class Of 1999 | DVD | (08/10/2001)
from £N/A
| Saving you £N/A (N/A%)
| RRP Even though Class of 1999 has "exploitation" stamped all over it--with its gratuitous car chases, shoot-outs, and anarchistic characters--it is a guilty pleasure. Unfolding in the future--well, at least at the time of its release it was a decade ahead of schedule--this movie shows how our urban schools have deteriorated to the point that gangs run the classroom and the police, scared to even go near these educational wastelands, use hired goons to keep law and order there. (In fact, the US government now has a Department of Educational Defense.) In Class of 1999, a corporate representative (Stacy Keach), eager to rake in potential billions in government contracts, convinces a Seattle-area school principal (Malcolm McDowell) to test out three lifelike android teachers (including Pam Grier). This technological trio possess intelligence and superhuman strength, which enable them to both educate and discipline the bad apples at school. Unfortunately, the androids quickly move from harsh discipline such as spankings and beatings to murder, and Keach's corporate scumbag convinces McDowell's educator that despite this, the programme needs to stay its course. Thus it is up to a newly paroled ex-gangbanger (Bradley Gregg) and the principal's daughter (Traci Lind) to uncover the teachers' identities and alert students and rival gangs to the impending danger. Despite its formulaic approach and some plot implausibilities, Mark Lester's film is entertaining to watch, especially with such exchanges as: "So they've been waging war with my students". "Well, isn't that what all teachers do?"--Bryan Reesman, Amazon.com

The Story Of The Total Eclipse | DVD | (24/04/2000)
from £7.29
| Saving you £5.70 (78.19%)
| RRP 11 August 1999 witnessed an event of a lifetime - a total solar eclipse hitting England for the first time since June 1927. The band of darkness swept in from the Altantic crossing the Cornish coast at 11.11am and passing through Europe the Middle East and India at twice the speed of sound to end at sunset 8 700 miles away. The drama of the day when the sun came out twice and night fell before noon was experienced by more people than had seen any other total eclipse in history. In the United Kingdom zone of totality two million eclipse watchers thrilled at the suddenness with which darkness fell and the temperature dropped - their excitement undampened by heavy cloud cover. High above the gloom of Cornwall an RAF Hercules filmed the moment of totality when the sun disappeared behind the moon all of which is captured on this awe-inspiring video. Viewers can marvel at the magnificent 'diamond rings' and 'Bailey's Beads' as the light from the sun appears over the mountains and valleys of the moon as well as the beautiful corona - the amazing pearly outer atmosphere - and the plumes of gas leaping from the sun's surface. Presented by the legendary 'The Sky At Night' astronomer Patrick Moore who composed the classical music which adorns the programme the video features exhilarating footage of eclipses from around the world including England's last eclipse in 1927. Also included are on-the-spot interviews from eclipse chasers and locals at Bray Hill Cornwall and the reactions of the crowd and wildlife as darkness slowly decends. This DVD version of the programme also contains tables and figures relating to the eclipse as well as extensive extracts from Patrick Moore's compact disc Moore Music.
