| RRP A feature documentary made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Prisoner, In My Mind is written and directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Chris Rodley. The film recounts one of Chris's early filmmaking experiences: an attempt to interview Patrick McGoohan about his enigmatic series something McGoohan had resisted previously for a Channel 4-commissioned documentary. A documentary that didn't quite go to plan. In a series of frank interviews conducted by Chris, most of which ultimately remained unused in the 1983 documentary Six Into One The Prisoner File, McGoohan slowly reveals his innermost thoughts regarding his concept. Disowned by McGoohan at the time, Six Into One is now locked away forever, but paved the way for this new film, which sets out to put the record straight some thirty-five years later. Featuring new interviews with his daughter Catherine McGoohan who offers insightful and informed views on her father s inner emotional and psychological state of mind and featuring never-before-seen archive footage, this is the definitive story of The Prisoner as told by its creator SPECIAL FEATURES [] Patrick McGoohan 1983: an outtake from one of Chris Rodley's full interview sessions. [] Catherine McGoohan 2017: Catherine McGoohan speaks candidly about her father's work and legacy.

Alvarez Kelly | DVD | (01/10/2001)
from £5.28
| Saving you £7.71 (146.02%)
| RRP Alvarez Kelly (1966) doesn't really justify the description of "Western Classic" which Columbia Tristar attach to it, but it's a pleasant enough Western directed by Edward Dmytryk. The rather convoluted plot (adventurer plays one side off against the other on a cattle drive from Mexico during the Civil War) relies heavily on the charm of the two stars, William Holden and Richard Widmark, but the two prove as reliable as ever. There are some so-so action scenes, but it's the battle of wits between the two principals that supplies all the fireworks. By contrast Janice Rule is just adequate as the love interest. On the DVD: It's a good-looking DVD transfer, with a 1:2.35 aspect ratio and Dolby Digital sound. Subtitles are available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch and Polish with dubbing into French, German, Italian and Spanish. For extras there are trailers and some filmographies, so partial as to be not much use. --Ed Buscombe

| RRP Doctor Who star Jon Pertwee is your host in this highly popular, light-hearted panel game where viewers are invited to play detective - pitting their wits against a panel of celebrities to solve a fictitious murder mystery. The show's brilliantly original formula, devised by comedians Lance Percival and Jeremy Lloyd, presented short dramas laden with clues and red herrings to be pieced together by the celebrity panellists, who would then question the characters involved and finally point the finger at the most likely suspect. Lively repartee was the order of the day and joining Pertwee in this series is a veritable who's who of 1970s television: Richard O'Sullivan, Patrick Mower, Aimi Macdonald, Anthony Valentine, Harry H. Corbett, Arthur Mullard and Rodney Bewes join up with celebrities Jackie Collins, Henry Cooper and Kingsley Amis to track down "whodunnit".

| RRP Set in northern Africa at the beginning of World War I, Running Free is an unusual movie narrated by a horse, voiced by Lukas Haas (Witness). While the gambit works for the most part, let's face it, some sentences ("I had to find my place in the world") just sound silly coming from equine lips. Lucky, as he is called, is born on an African-bound ship but is separated from his mother when the horses swim for shore and the new colt simply can't keep up. While mum and the rest of the gang are sent to work in the mines, Lucky is discovered by a young orphan who works as a stable hand. The mother-son pair are briefly reunited, but the stable's stallion, Caesar, fatally injures her. The high-born Caesar also prevents his own foal, Beauty, from seeing Lucky and eventually forces the colt out on his own. The dour indignities heaped upon this horse, including a heart-wrenching parting with the boy, last for about an hour of this 78-minute film before events begin to shift and Lucky is able to live up to his name. Although the film is rated suitable for all viewers, horse death, graphic fighting and cruelty toward the boy might be overwhelming to young or sensitive children. --Kimberly Heinrichs, Amazon.com

| RRP Brother Cadfael, the medieval mystery-solving monk, is a fascinating detective, at once a man of God, of science, and even of action. Derek Jacobi stars as the former "soldier, sailor, sinner, and Crusader" who has his faith tested by crimes of royal intrigue and baffling murders that seem to plague 12th-century Shrewsbury. You'll find few Benedictine monks so skilled at using a quarterstaff, but beware never to tell him your theory of how a crime "must" have been committed. "We must always be wary of 'must'," he states. "Nothing is certain." And so attest these divine mysteries based on the books by Ellis Peters. Each feature-length episode is self-contained but plays against the backdrop of England's civil war between forces loyal to King Stephen and those to Empress Maud. Eoin McCarthy costars as local Under-Sheriff Hugh Beringar, who relies on Cadfael when murder subverts his efforts to keep the peace. --Donald Liebenson
