Director Victor Nunez's richly photographed Ulee's Gold drew critical acclaim for Peter Fonda's and Patricia Richardson's subtle performances--and premiered as the Festival Centrepiece in 1997's Sundance Film Festival. Vividly photographed and set amid southern Florida's tupelo swamps, the film's narrative hinges on the evolution of a more-than-platonic connection between neighbours Ulysses, "Ulee" for short (Fonda), and Connie (Richardson). Best-known for her role on TV's Home Improvement, Richardson makes a satisfying foray into film with this appropriately smaller role where she manages to hatch out of potential typecasting. Fonda is independent, stubborn, and reserved Ulee anchors the narrative. He is a beekeeper whose struggling small business is all that keeps him focused in the wake of his wife Penelope's death, his daughter-in-law Helen's (Christine Dunford) drug addiction, and the de facto single-parent obligations he takes on to his adolescent granddaughters (notice the Homeric references). Soon the plot twists, however, in the sociopathy of Eddie and Ferris, friends of Ulee's jailed son--a sociopathy that is also the impetus for the family to confront its dysfunction and for Connie and Ulee to see more in each other than mere neighbourliness. Thankfully, Nunez foregoes the bathos of a Hollywood ending and leaves us satisfied on one hand with Helen's healing and Eddie's justice but uncertain, though hopeful, about Ulee's next step. --Erik Macki, Amazon.com

This action-packed review features dramatic highlights and interviews with the stars bringing you the full story of the season. Exceptional action footage including some in-car sequences from all eight rounds charts the incredible performance of the unstoppable Sauber Mercedes C9 from the opening race in Japan to the title-deciding final round in Mexico. Experience the speed drama controversy and nail-biting finale from one of the most memorable seasons of racing. The Mercedes assault was led by Jean-Louis Schlesser Jochen Mass Mauro Baldi and Kenny Acheson while driving greats including Jan Lammers Bob Wollek Julian Bailey Mark Blundell were also out for victory during the 1989 season. The arrival of Jaguar's new turbo-charged XJR-11 a strong field of privately-entered Porsches and Japanese competition from Toyota and Nissan posed occasional challenges to Mercedes' dominance but the silver cars were almost in a class of their own. While the destination of the team title was a foregone conclusion from the opening round the battle for the driver's crown remained an intense fight between Schlesser and Baldi right down to the very last race - where a massive collision decided the outcome. All eyes were on Mercedes but this review also highlights the Joest team's heroics the awesome Spice performance at Donington and the flashes of brilliance from Jaguar's drivers. This comprehensive review is an essential record of an important year for sportscar racing as well as an action-packed journey through an awesome season of racing.

This special Box Set collection pays tribute to his full range of acting abilities - from the farce comedy to the action drama - with three contrasting yet equally entertaining films. Orders Are Orders: A sleepy army barracks is about to be overrun by a film company shooting a science fiction caper - much to the annoyance of the Divisional Commander who decides to make a surprise inspection. The Blockhouse: A group of POW's is forced to seek shelter deep inside a Nazi Blockhouse packed with supplies and hidden treasures. When the bombardment causes the walls to collapse and there is no hope of escape their physical comfort gives way to mental disintegration that provides these hardened soldiers with their toughest test of the war. Where Does It Hurt? In this classic hospital farce Sellers plays a greedy and crooked hospital administrator who has perfected the duplicitous arts of conning insurance companies bill-padding and unnecessary surgery. Ably abetted by Jo-Ann Pflug (MASH) and Pat Morita (Karate Kid Happy Days) Sellers puts in a show-stealing performance that lives long in the memory.
