Capote (Dir. Bennett Miller) (2005): In 1959 Truman Capote a popular writer for The New Yorker learns about the horrific and senseless murder of a family of four in Halcomb Kansas. Inspired by the story material Capote and his partner Harper Lee travel to the town to research for an article. However as Capote digs deeper into the story he is inspired to expand the project into what would be his greatest work 'In Cold Blood'. To that end he arranges extensive interviews with the prisoners especially with Perry Smith a quiet and articulate man with a troubled history. As he works on his book Capote feels some compassion for Perry which in part prompts him to help the prisoners to some degree. However that feeling deeply conflicts with his need for closure for the book which only an execution can provide. The conflict and mixed motives for both interviewer and subject make for a troubling experience that would produce a literary account that redefined modern non-fiction.... All The Kings Men (Dir. Steven Zaillian) (2006): Absolute power corrupts absolutely in writer-director Steven Zaillian's (Schindler's List) adaptation of Robert Penn Warren's classic novel ""All the King's Men"" featuring an all-star cast led by Sean Penn Jude Law Kate Winslet Patricia Clarkson James Gandolfini Mark Ruffalo Anthony Hopkins. All the King's Men charts the spectacular rise and fall of a charismatic Southern politician ""Boss"" Willie Stark (Penn). Law co-stars as Jack Burden the once idealistic now embittered ex-reporter who unwittingly fuels Stark's corrupt political ambitions. Gandhi (Dir. Richard Attenborough) (1982): In South Africa a young Indian lawyer is booted off a train for refusing to ride second-class. Upon his return to his native India and fed up with the unjust political system he joins the Indian Congress Party which encourages social change through passive resistance. When his ""subversive"" activities land him in jail masses of low-skilled workers strike to support his non-violent yet revolutionary position. Back in India Gandhi renounces the Western way of life and struggles to organize Indian labor against British colonialism. A strike costs many British soldiers their lives so the crown responds by slaughtering 1 500 Indians. Enraged the ascetic spiritual leader continues to preach pacifism until he has lead India out from under the tyranny of British imperialism.

After achieving stardom by taking over the lead vocals of Genesis from Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins released his first solo album, Face Value, in 1980. This explores the album's making in a one-hour documentary film, with Collins himself providing the bulk of the insightful commentary. From his home studio, he discusses how the lyrics to "In the Air Tonight" wrote themselves after his painful divorce and why a drummer would never use a drum machine. Also interviewed are engineer Hugh Padgham, producer Ahmet Ertegun, Genesis colleagues Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford, and many of the studio musicians. Songs such as "Behind the Lines", "I Missed Again", "The Roof Is Leaking", "This Must Be Love" and, of course, "In the Air Tonight" are excerpted in both home and concert footage (some of it previously unreleased), and Collins accompanies himself at the piano in a wrenching "Please Don't Ask", which was cut from the album. In the two decades between the original album's appearance and this 1999 video production, Phil Collins has gone on to become an international solo star, but many still consider Face Value his finest album. This excellent documentary shows you why. --David Horiuchi

Filmed at Birmingham's prestigious National Exhibition Centre on 15th July 1986 Eric Clapton along with Phil Collins Nathan East and Greg Phillinganes gave one of the greatest ever performances featuring a small band format. The set list included four songs from the (as yet unheard) August album: 'Run' 'Miss You' 'Tearing Us Apart' and 'Holy Mother'. All four songs were warmly received and some have gone on to become firm favourites with Eric's regular concert supporters. The appeal of this concert is the combination of music both old and new from Cream Derek And The Dominoes and subsequent solo material. The full version of 'Layla' is featured that includes the beautiful 'Thorn Tree In The Garden' second section. It all ends in a rousing rendention of 'Sunshine Of Your Love' as the finale.
When Peter Gabriel Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford joined forces in the late sixties their initial intentions were not to be recording artists in their own right but rather songwriters writing songs that would ultimately be recorded by other artists. That initial plan soon fell by the wayside when in the early seventies the group secured a record deal and started releasing albums as Genesis. During the subsequent years the group progressed from being at the forefront of the underground scene with the release of such albums as Trespass and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway to become the household names upon the release of multi-million selling albums such as We Can't Dance and Invisible Touch. By talking to the individual members of the group - long-standing members Tony Banks Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford ex-members Peter Gabriel Steve Hackett Anthony Phillips Daryl Stuermer and Jonathan Silver and the last singer Ray Wilson we will discover what they consider to be their favourite Genesis songs and the reasons why certain songs have a special place in the Genesis story. Features cuts from: 'I Can't Dance' 'Invisible Touch' 'Follow You Follow Me' 'The Musical Box' 'Supper's Ready' 'I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)' 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' 'Afterglow' 'Misunderstanding' 'Turn It On Again' 'Mama' and 'Land of Confusion'.

This one hour program is the record of the superstar segment of that significa
""Dinosaurs"" is a term that seems to fit Genesis like no other band. Jointly with ""Yes"" Genesis have been the most influential band for generations of progressive rock bands. 1974 saw the release of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway an epic prog rock monument tuned to perfection. Not all was peaches and cream however when singer Peter Gabriel left the band after the supporting tour. After a long futile search for a new vocalist the remaining band members decided to let drummer Phil Collins take over the microphone - another stroke of genius. Whether it was mainly for Collins or not the band steadily drifted away from theatrical prog rock towards mainstream pop music. Perfect evidence is this 1980 concert at the Lyceum Ballroom in London which coincided with the work on their monster-selling studio album Abacab. Tracklist: 1. Deep In The Motherlodge 2.
