  He studied composition with Leonid Hrabovsky and piano with Vladimir Viardo. He played his New York debut piano recital at United Nations in 1994. In the last ten years he has written music for symphony and chamber orchestras vocal quartets jazz bands and for film theatre & TV. His compositions have been performed by the Melbourne Symphony Filter Kingz Silo String Quartet and Elena Polevaya. In 2001 he won Billboard Magazine Composer Competition. Phil Gelbach's works are available on the Music in the Garden label.
