One of the very first prison escape movies, La Grande Illusion is hailed as one of the greatest films ever made.
One of the most acclaimed films of all time, and a powerful anti-war statement, Jean Renoir's profoundly humanist La Grande Illusion remains as vibrant, exciting, and wise today as it was when it was released in 1937. Set in the German prison camps of WWI, the film stars Jean Gabin as Maréchal, and Marcel Dalio as Rosenthal. Like the charming aristocrat Captain de Boeldieu (Pierre Fresnay), these two French aviators were shot down and now spend most of their time escaping from German prison camps before inevitably being recaptured. Between escapes, they do what they can to amuse themselves, but after a tunnel they've dug is discovered, the three are sent to Wintersborn, a forbidding fortress of a prison commanded by former ace pilot Von Rauffenstein (Erich Von Stroheim). Von Rauffenstein cannot help but strike up a friendship with Captain de Boeldieu, a kindred spirit from the doomed nobility. Two lesbian girls Joëlle Coeur (The Demoniacs) and Gilda Arancio (Tender and Perverse Emanuelle) set off hiking through the countryside and finding what they assume is an empty house break in for the night with disastrous results. Captured by a gang of thieves who think that the girls have stolen their loot the girls are abused to force a confession. Encouraged by the popularity of the sex scenes in his horror films Jean Rollin began to experiment with a series of sexploitation movies using the pseudonym Michel Gentil. Schoolgirl Hitchhikers was the first of many and for years was almost impossible to see.
The Beast is an erotic masterpiece from the most controversial exponent of the genre-Walerian Borowczyk. This sexual fantasia caused outrage when it was first screened in 1975 and was refused a certificate until 26 years later. A modern day version of 'Beauty and the Beast', The Beast is the story of a young American heiress, Lucy Broadhurst, betrothed to the mentally unstable heir to a French aristocratic dynasty. Dark rumours abound about a mystical 'beast' and on the night of her wedding Lucy is visited by strange and erotic dreams.Set in a beautiful gothic chateau, the film features hilarious couplings, not so pure clergy and unwholesome secrets shot in a superb brushstroke style, climaxing in what has to be one of the most erotic, and at the same time hilarious finales of all time.

In Claude Chabrol's La Ceremonie the wealthy Lelievre family live in a grand estate in the calm isolation of the French countryside. All that lacks in their lustrous lifestyle is the perfect maid who they believe to have found in the shy and recalcitrant Sophie (Sandrine Bonnaire). The match seems to be perfect and Sophie proves to be ""a bit bizarre but a real pearl"" according to Madame Lelievre (Jacqueline Bisset). Sophie remains distanced from the family and only comes out
Combines the darkly satiric edge of all-time cult classic MAN BITES DOG with a fresh and funny take on the much-loved conventions of the vampire film. After a few failed attempts, a TV crew interviews a family of malcontent vampires for a documentary. George and Bertha are your classic modern day parents, remote and out of touch with their kids' lives, bourgeois-boring and, of course, consummate drinkers of human blood. Their teenage daughter Grace is on a fast track to self-destruction while their errant son Samson carries on like a blood-sucking Casanova, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. Hilarious and disquieting in equal measure.
