RV: An overworked Bob Munro his wife Jaime their 15-year-old daughter Cassie and 12-year-old son Carl are in desperate need of some quality time together. After promising to take them on a family vacation in Hawaii Bob abruptly changes plans without telling them. Instead of a week in a tropical paradise they're going on a road trip to Colorado in a recreational vehicle. Dragging his wife and kids kicking and screaming into the RV Bob's togetherness plan (which is partly a ruse to keep him from losing his job) almost immediately hits a major speed bump. Everything that can go wrong does. Bob's lame attempts to navigate the unwieldy oversized vehicle are met with silence and scorn from his resentful family. The RV life is a far cry from their comfortable life in Los Angeles and every attempt Bob makes to get them into the spirit of the vacation threatens to tear them further apart. At an RV camp the Munro family is befriended by the Gornicke family - an irritatingly endearing happy-go-lucky clan of full-time RVers. The more they try to elude the Gornickes the more their paths seem destined to cross. But adversity has a way of uniting even the most dysfunctional family members and each setback the Munros experience inadvertently helps them become a true family again. Uncle Buck: An idle good natured bachelor is left in charge of his nephew and nieces during a family crisis. Unaccustomed to family life Buck soon charms his younger relatives but his style doesn't impress everyone including his girlfriend. The film charts his progress from slob to a reasonable human being by having to manage with girlfriend troubles unemployment a sex mad neighbour cooking breakfast and a beautiful but rebellious niece. Are We There Yet?: 350 miles. 24 hours. His girlfriend's kids. What could possibly go wrong? Smooth operator Nick (Ice Cube) is interested in young attractive divorcee Suzanne (Nia Long) mother of a 7-year-old-boy and an 11-year-old-girl. Trying to get together with Suzanne Nick volunteers to bring her children to meet her out of town. Missing the plane they must make the long journey by car. What Nick doesn't know is that Suzanne's children think that no man is good enough for their mom and will do everything they can to make the trip a nightmare for him... Fasten your seat belts it's going to be a bumpy ride!

  • The Sherlock Holmes Catalogue - The Sign Of Four [1987]The Sherlock Holmes Catalogue - The Sign Of Four | DVD | (28/04/2003) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £9.99

The Sign of Four is a 1987 feature-length version of Conan Doyle's second Sherlock Holmes novel, and is faithful to the original story except in one important detail: Dr Watson (Edward Hardwicke) does not get the girl. Otherwise, the familiar tale of the death of Bartholomew Sholto and the theft of the Agra treasure is all here, featuring a snappy performance by Jeremy Brett as Holmes doing some of the finest investigative work of his career. The famous climax, a chase on the Thames in which Holmes is almost struck dead by an exotic weapon, is handled very well. Sherlockians may have a hard time not seeing Watson's romantic pursuit of Mary Morstan (Lila Kaye), his first wife according to Doyle's book, but it would hardly have been practical in the context of the long-running Granada Television series. The rest is to be enjoyed, however. --Tom Keogh

Robin Williams is in his fuzzy, sensitive-with-bittersweet-touches mode in Moscow on the Hudson. Playing a musician in a Russian circus who gets talked into defecting by a pal and does so in the middle of Bloomingdale's. A great concept, to be sure, but writer-director Paul Mazursky doesn't seem to know where to go from there. Williams winds up living in the same kind of poverty that he did in Russia, casting about for a way to make a living while both wallowing and drowning in the sudden tidal wave of freedom. Mazursky wants to make a point about how little we appreciate what we have, but he fails to entertain in the process--or at least to engage in a consistent way. --Marshall Fine, Amazon.com

After the success of Jurassic Park in 1993, the floodgates opened for digital special effects, and Jumanji is nothing if not a showcase for computer-generated creepiness guaranteed to give young children a nightmare or two. Whether that was the filmmakers' intention is up for debate, since this is a PG-rated adventure revolving around a mysterious board game that unleashes a terrifying jungle world upon its players, including gigantic spiders, huge mosquitoes, a stampede of rhinos, elephants, and every other jungle beast you can imagine. Robin Williams plays a man-child who's been trapped in the world of "Jumanji" for 26 years until he's freed by two kids who've discovered the game and released its parade of dangerous horrors. A chaotic and misguided attempt at family entertainment, the movie does offer a few good laughs, and the effects are frequently impressive, if not entirely convincing to the eye. --Jeff Shannon

Happy Feat: In the great nation of Emperor Penguins deep in Antarctica you're nobody unless you can sing-which is unfortunate for Mumble (Elijah Wood) who is the worst singer in the world. He is born dancing to his own tune...tap dancing. Though Mumble's mum Norma Jean (Nicole Kidman) thinks this little habit is cute his dad Memphis (Hugh Jackman) says it 'just ain't penguin.' Besides they both know that without a Heartsong Mumble may never find true love. As fate would have it his one friend Gloria (Brittany Murphy) happens to be the best singer around. Mumble and Gloria have a connection from the moment they hatch but she struggles with his strange 'hippity- hoppity' ways. Mumble is just too different-especially for Noah the Elder (Hugo Weaving) the stern leader of Emperor Land who ultimately casts him out of the community. Away from home for the first time Mumble meets a posse of decidedly un-Emperor-like penguins-the Adelie Amigos. Led by Ramon (Robin Williams) the Adelies instantly embrace Mumble's cool dance moves and invite him to party with them. In Adelie Land Mumble seeks the counsel of Lovelace the Guru (also voiced by Robin Williams) a crazy-feathered Rockhopper penguin who will answer any of life's questions for the price of a pebble. Together with Lovelace and the Amigos Mumble sets out across vast landscapes and after some epic encounters proves that by being true to yourself you can make all the difference in the world. March Of The Penguins: Coming from a French director Luc Jacquet the Oscar-winning family documentary March Of The Penguins would have to be a love story. And it is in that it follows the mating rituals of the emperor penguin one of the most resilient animals on earth. Each summer after a nourishing period of deep-sea feeding the penguins pop up onto the ice and begin their procession across the frozen tundra of Antarctica. Walking in single file they are a sight to behold. Hundreds converge from every direction moving instinctively toward their mating ground. Once there they mingle and chatter until they find the perfect mate - a monogamous match that will last a year through the brutal winter and into the spring. During that time the mother will birth an egg and then leave for the ocean to feed again. The father will stay to protect the egg through the freezing blizzards and pure darkness of winter which would be deadly to practically any other species. Finally with spring the egg hatches and the baby penguins are born. Mothers return from the sea to reunite with their families and feed the starving newborns while the fathers are finally relieved of their protective duties after months without food. The film is remarkable in its story which is narrated by Morgan Freeman whose dignified voice gives the penguins the grave admiration they deserve. But even more incredible is its photography which shows the penguins hunting underwater slidi

  • Robots [UMD Universal Media Disc]Robots | UMD | (19/09/2005) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £24.99

The delightful designs of William Joyce (writer/illustrator of such popular children's books as George Shrinks and Bently & Egg) make Robots a joy to behold. The round, bouncy, and ramshackle forms of hero Rodney Copperbottom and his computer-animated friends are part of an ornate a universe of elaborate contraptions and gleaming metallic surfaces. Rodney (voiced with a hint-of-Scottish lilt by Ewan McGregor) is a young inventor who sets off for Robot City to work for Big Weld (Mel Brooks), the supreme inventor of the mechanical world. But upon his arrival, Rodney discovers that Big Weld has disappeared, and the slick, shiny Ratchet (Greg Kinnear, As Good As It Gets) is phasing out the spare parts that lumpen robots need to function and replacing them with "upgrades"--expensive and glistening new exoskeletons. Unfortunately, from this suitable beginning, the story degenerates into a series of action sequences that make very little sense, though some are kinetic and fun (though others are only there to serve the inevitable Robots video game). Most kids will enjoy the sheer visual pleasure of the movie, but compared to the narrative richness of Pixar movies like The Incredibles and Toy Story, that pleasure is pretty short-lived. Also featuring the voices of Robin Williams, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Amanda Bynes, Jennifer Coolidge, and many, many more. --Bret Fetzer
