Since the Stranglers signed to United Artists in 1977 many film clips were made to accompany their records. Sometimes even those promoting the big hits got only limited showing. 'Duchess' wasn't shown at all by Top of the Pops because the clip was considered to be 'blasphemous'. By way of contrast 'Golden Brown' was one of the most shown clips in the world for EMI. Having made their first serious impact on the British music scene in the late 70's. The Stranglers appeal as a major live act had never waned in over 14 years at the top. No More Heroes Norfolk Coast features Jean Jacques Burnel in his first main screen role as Warner. Left by his wife Wendy (Lynsey Baxter) Warner struggles to come to terms with her subsequent suicide. He returns to his native Norfolk where he tries to rationalise his memories of a childhood torn apart by incest and an adherence to a strange cult. He turns to his older cousin Linda (Susannah York) for help and advice but instead seeks his own way out through confronting his father Tucker (Nicholas Ball). All the conflicting strands in his life begin to unwind and we are left questioning the true reality of Warner's situation.
The Stranglers were amongst the predecessors of Punk who began by playing the raucous UK pub band scene. When the notion of punk manifested The Stranglers were a perfect fit for the movement maintaining an unmistakable stage presence by always dressing in black and producing a hard dark and intriguingly moody sound.
