Formed in Leeds in 1984 The Wedding Present have been nothing if not prolific with both releases and labels with some 36 singles 8 studio albums and 6 record labels thus far. Early independent singles success was accompanied by support and many sessions on the John Peel Show in the UK followed by their first album which was critically acclaimed - and the band signed their first major record company deal with their own choice of producers and singles stipulated in 1989. No fewer than 17 singles and 2 albums were released from this RCA deal. In 1992 - instead of releasing a new album the band decided to release a single on the first Monday of each month all of which were limited pressings and all of which charted in the Top 30 equalling Elvis Presley's record of the most Top 30 UK hits in a year. In 2005, after an eight year hiatus, David Gedge revived the critically acclaimed band, The Wedding Present, and released a new album, 'Take Fountain.'
