Walking Accross Egypt Jonathan Taylor Thomas is Wesley, a juvenile delinquent who's been in and out of trouble for most of his young life. In detention for stealing cars he desperately wants to get out any way that he can. Ellen Burstyn is Mattie, a lonely old widow who buries herself in local church activities and her spoiled grown up children (Judge Reinhold and Gail O'Grady). Mattie sees some good in the boy and allows him into her home for a second chance. Anatomy of an Illness Norman Cousins (Edward Asner) was a success in all aspects of life - the Dean of New York editors, married to a beautifulwife and father to doting daughters. Fate deals him a terrible blow when he is struck down with a debilitating illness that has the medical experts stumped; all agree on one thing however, that his condition is irreversible. Not accepting this prognosis, Norman takes matters into his own hands and prescribes himself a regime of a positive attitude, with lots of laughter (often at other people's expense) an attitude which helps overcome his illness and ultimately saves his life. Hustling A New York investigative reporter Fran Morrison (Lee Remick) is put on an assignment to infiltrate the secret world of prostitution and expose the people behind it. Her investigation leads to a friendship with a hardnosed hooker (Jill Clayburgh) who spills her guts and tells Fran everything she wants to know as she herself has been a victim of abuse at the hands of the people being investigated. Fran soon discovers that some of the city's richest and most powerful families benefit directly from prostitution, causing a storm of controversy for those exposed for their involvement when the report appears in a national magazine. Silence of the Heart A 17-year-old boy (Chad Lowe) is killed in an automobile accident. As the facts come to light, the indications are that the boy has actually taken his own life. His mother (Mariette Hartley) and sister (Dana Hill) don't agree and try to search for the truth. Even the father (Howard Hesseman) digs in his heels and refuses to face the probability of a suicide. As the story unravels, the boy's best friend (Charlie Sheen) is tormented by the possibility that perhaps he could have prevented the tragedy.

After the bear kills other campers two rangers a hunter and a little boy and his mother the ranger employs his friend a Naturalist to find the bear and tranquilize it. But he gets killed. Finally with the help of a Helicopter Pilot the ranger goes in pursuit to finally kill it with any means necessary with rifles and a rocket launcher. It is to the end when they realize the bear is much stronger than they imagined.

  Zane Grey (1872-1939) was one of the most popular authors of western fiction ever, and 60 years after his death many of his 78 books, such as Riders of the Purple Sage, are still in print. In the silent era Hollywood filmed many of his stories with stars such as Tom Mix and Jack Holt. Grey knew the west well, particularly the deserts of Arizona and Utah, and demanded accurate locations for the films. Later, however, many of these films were remade, sometimes two or three times, without Grey's involvement, and the relation between novels and films grew much looser. The films are quintessential B-moveis: black and white, just over an hour, featuring minor stars and formulaic plots with some music and comedy thrown in. Committed fans of the western genre will not be disappointed, and others will derive pleasure from the delightful Jane Greer in Sunset Pass and Tim Holt, son of Jack, in the other three films. The location shooting, mostly in the Lone Pine area of California, has an authentic feel. Titles are: Under the Tonto Rim (1947); Thunder Mountain (1947); Sunset Pass (1946); Wild Horse Mesa(1947). On the DVD: This box set contains two DVDs, each of which include two movies deriving from Zane Grey novels. Print quality and sound is generally acceptable, though Under the Tonto Rim has poor definition and is a bit scratchy. Aspect ratio is 14:9. The DVDs contain no extras of any kind. --Ed Buscombe
