I love the smell of orange crush at the Molineux. Smells like... victory. Agent orange, your work is done.Appropriately enough, this result was five years in the making, five since we embraced our inner throstle under Tony Mowbray, five since he, Roberto Di Matteo and Roy Hodgson returned Albion to our footballing roots, five where Wolves have been toiling in more utilitarian style. Two days before St Valentine's Day, we unleashed an early massacre and left Wolves trampled underfoot. The Black Country proved its supremacy over the forces of Staffordshire once more and left feeling the most toxic emotion you can ever bestow on your local rivals. Pity. The match in full with original commentary and post match interviews
Consult the history books and you will find that Albion and Wolves have contested 156 games over almost 125 years. Some books will even tell you that the team from Molineux has won one or two of them. Don't believe a word. As Orange Crush conclusively proves the Throstles have come out on top time after time occasionally allowing them the luxury of a draw or two - purely in the spirit of neighbourliness. On the sacred ground of The Hawthorns or over the Staffordshire border Albion have prevailed and we've captured some of the greatest victories here on Orange Crush. Thrill as Darren Bradley's goal comes out of a cannon enjoy the Sunday slaughter in the FA Cup grin as Gera seals another promotion. As the 2010/11 season drew nearer its climax Wolves played host to arch rivals West Bromwich Albion in a match that Wanderers simply had to win.And win they did, in convincing style, thrashing The Baggies 3-1 in front of a packed Molineux as Steven Fletcher struck twice either side of an Adlene Guedioura goal. If anticipation surrounding the derby clash wasn’t great enough already Mick McCarthy’s team were under added pressure as Wolves sat uncomfortably in the relegation zone before the match. From kick off, and with so much at stake, Wolves showed the greater desire to take all the points from the encounter with the breakthrough coming after just 15 minutes. A lively looking Fletcher pounced to net his first of the day with a low shot that fell nicely for the forward as the opposition struggled to deal with a corner Narrowly missing out earlier in the game Guedioura’s patience paid off as he found himself in space to volley the ball sweetly into the Albion’s net to make it 2-0 and just two minutes after the break Fletcher bagged himself another to take an unassailable lead from which the Albion could only reply with a consolation penalty. The afternoon belonged to Wolves and the Molineux faithful, who were in full voice, were rewarded with three vital points that edged Wolves out of the relegation zone with just two more matches to play.
