Norman Granz initiated the concept of Jazz At The Philharmonic in the forties. The idea was to gather band leaders and soloists in one large venue who would otherwise only be seen individually in small clubs. For this 1975 Montreux concert the players gather around the great Benny Carter for a night of competitive improvisation. In a film shot just months before he died in 1985, legendary saxophonist Zoot Sims plays such jazz classics as Gone with the Wind, In a Sentimental Mood, Autumn Leaves and Castle Blues. With Red Mitchell on bass and Rune Gustafsson on guitar.Throughout his career, Sims played with renowned bands, including Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Stan Kenton, and Buddy Rich. Sims was also one of Woody Herman's Four Brothers, and he was known among his peers as one of the strongest swingers in the field.
