Meet Gru (Steve Carrell), the evil genius living in suburbia. Surrounded by houses with beautiful garden's, white picket fences and blossoming flowers, he lives in a dark, black house with an unkempt, unloved dead lawn. This house, unbeknownst to his neighbours, is his secret hideout and helped by his army of tireless little yellow minions, this is where all his evil ingenuity takes place.
Gru is consumed by evil; he is enthralled by all things wicked and absorbs malevolence. He is also incredibly competitive in the world of evil; a mysterious evil mastermind... has stolen one of the pyramids from Egypt, sending Gru into a jealous, hate fuelled rage - he hasn't managed to make headlines since he and his minions stole the Times Square JumboTron; but that was years ago and had passed out of people's memory. In a bid to contend with this new kid on the block, Gru decides to plan the biggest heist in the history of the world; steal the moon (he goes all out this guy does in a bid to win people's contempt) with a powerful shrink-ray. He has fantasised about the idea ever since he was little and he desperately wants the title of the greatest thief that ever lived, he'll most definitely do anything to cement that reputation! However, as the plan backfires and the cunning super-nerd Vector (Jason Segel) swoops in, steals the shrink-ray and ruins Gru's plans, Gru needs to come up with a plan to get his evil-doing back on track! Armed with the knowledge that his nemesis has a mighty sweet tooth, he adopts cookie-selling orphans Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Elsie Fisher) whilst consulting with his personal weapons specialist, the evil Dr Nefario (Russell Brand), who then creates a new line of cookie robots to lure Vector to them and take back what is rightfully his! (Well, Gru stole it in the first place, so it is his!)
In the midst of his evil mission something remarkable, and completely alien to Gru, happens. The three little girls who have come into his life begin to become something much more to him than simple pawns. They care about Gru and give him something no one has ever given him before; love. Turns out that he is actually a pretty great father figure, but, as his upcoming moon mission clashes with a Ballet recital, he must decide what is more important - being an evil genius with a reputation to match or a loving father to 3 innocent girls.

Computer-animated children's comedy about an arch-criminal who has a change of heart.
