Dual Format Edition containing the DVD and world premiere Blu-ray release of John Cassavetes' astonishingly powerful 1968 feature, Faces, a film which has had a huge and lasting impact on independent filmmaking, evident in the work of Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee and Jim Jarmusch to name only a few. Set in suburban middle-class America of the 1960s, Faces portrays the disintegration of a marriage with an honesty rarely matched in cinema. Originally released when Cassavetes was a big name Hollywood acting star (The Dirty Dozen, Rosemary's Baby) Faces was nominted for... 3 Oscars - an unheard-of achievement for an independent film at the time. Classic drama directed by John Cassavetes and starring John Marley, Gena Rowlands and Lynn Carlin. After 14 years of marriage, upper-middle-class couple Richard and Maria Forst (Marley and Carlin) are finally on the cusp of separation. Their marriage has long been an empty union between two people with various problems and no interest in discussing them with each other. Richard declares his intention to formally divorce Maria and retreats into the arms of Jeannie Rapp (Rowlands), an escort he has already fallen for. Maria joins her married friends for a night out and brings a handsome young man named Chet (Seymour Cassel) back to her home. With their separation having been completed at long last, both Richard and Maria have nothing left to distract them from facing up to their own personal lives.
Please note this is a region 2 DVD and region B Blu-ray. It will require a region B Blu-ray player to play the Blu-ray and DVD or a Region 2 DVD player for the DVD. FACES is right: this definitive John Cassavetes film consists almost exclusively of tight, uncomfortable close-ups. It takes place in the fourteenth year of the marriage of Richard (John Marley) and Maria (Lynn Carlin). Neither husband nor wife is content with the conditions that prevail; Maria joins her friends looking for romantic satisfaction elsewhere, while Richard secures the services of a prostitute (Gena Rowlands). Maria herself has a one-night stand with a hippie (Seymour Cassel), but this is no more satisfying than her dead-end marriage.
