This is Tim Burton and Disney's comedy horror animated tale for children starring Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Landau and Martin Short (voiceovers). Shot in black and white it is Burton's fourth stop motion animation (in 3D) and it received Golden Globe, BAFTA and Oscar nominations in 2013 for best animated film.
Young Victor Frankenstein, a shy, lonely, incredibly creative genius spends all his spare time making films and working on science experiments up in his attic with only his precious dog, Sparky, for company. When Sparky is run over by... a car and killed Victor retrieves the body and inspired by his teacher Mr Rzykruski sets about resuscitating and reanimating him using a ground-breaking, highly controversial experimental technique involving lightning.
Despite all his best efforts, Victor finds it impossible to hide his extraordinary accomplishment and before long the whole town becomes aware of his monstrous re-creation. However, when his classmates discover his innovative method and use it to revive countless more assorted dead pets, the town risks being plunged into total chaos.
Delightfully entertaining and highly recommended though perhaps not entirely suitable for very young children.
