Incendies Blu Ray

| Blu Ray

Incendies the French/Canadian film from 2010 is based on the play, Scorched, by Wajdi Mouawad and is directed by Quebecois director Denis Villeneuve. It is an intense, complicated, baffling story of a set of twins, Jeanne and Simon, who are summoned by a solicitor following the death of their Middle Eastern mother, Nawal. On reading her will they are given envelopes to be delivered to their father who they believed was already dead and to a brother they didn't even know existed. They both eventually travel to the Middle East to set about discovering the secrets surrounding... their mothers turbulent past life. The revelations that unfold are complex, disturbing and distressing and are described graphically in the film using flashbacks of Nawal's life during the Lebanese Civil War in the 70's and 80s, first as a highly principled teenager, through a rebellious period as a young adult to her eventual harsh and brutal treatment during her incarceration in a prison. Incendies received an Oscar nomination in 2010 for Best Foreign Language Film. Canadian twins Jeanne and Simon are left two envelopes in their mother's will asking them to find a brother and father they never knew they had. [show more]

Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve directs this powerful drama based on the play by Wajdi Mouawad. When their Lebanese-Canadian mother dies, twins Jeanne and Simon Marwan (Melissa Desormeaux-Poulin and Maxim Gaudette) are puzzled by the unusual requests made in her will. Among the papers she leaves behind are two sealed letters: one to be delivered to a brother the twins did not know they had, and the other to their father, whom they had presumed dead. To deliver the letters the twins travel to Lebanon, where the traumatic and tumultuous past experiences of their mother (Lubna Azabal) are gradually revealed.
