    The perfect comedy/action film!

This is a great movie. It has a great combination of humour and action with a great cast. The pick of which has to be Chloe Moretz who plays Mindy. She handles the mix of comedy and fyling through the air firing guns brilliantly. The story is a good one too, with many twists and turns along the way. The blu ray bonus features are great also. There's a director's commentary as well as a 114 minute making of documentary, which is a very interesting look behind the scenes. In addition, there's other featurettes too. Overall, it's highly recommended.

A lot of hype surrounded the release of Kick Ass, not-least because of the controversy surrounding the butterfly-knife-wielding teen Hit Girl.

But now the hype and uproar has died down the film still stands up on its own merits as a genuinely funny, dark, and at times slapstick comedy.

Aaron Johnson (Dave) couldn't be a better fit for the invisible high-schooler turned in-over-his-head crimefighter.

But although he plays the eponymous hero, Aaron Johnson is upstaged by 13-year-old Chloƫ Grace Moretz (Hit Girl), who steals the screen at every opportunity with her brutal executions and foul-mouthed quips.

Visually, Kick Ass is strange because its palette is vibrant and diverse, in a time when superhero capers are striving for the 'gritty' look.

Couple that with the brutal violence and you have a strange juxtaposition which will have laughing with one breath and wincing with the next.

The soundtrack veers from punk to techno to an original superhero theme accented with pop-punk undertones, which all work well given the teen-centred story.

Great supporting performances by Nicholas Cage as Big Daddy (channelling Adam West's Batman) and Christopher "McLovin" Mintz-Plasse as Red Mist only strengthen the piece.

In all, unless you are familiar with the Kick Ass comics, the film is surprising in the best way. Its comic-yet-gory violence punctuates scenes containing sharp and memorable dialogue.

It may not live up to its pre-release hype, but it's certainly a welcome change in the superhero genre and a decent comedy in its own right.
