The 2005, King Kong epic has finally swung its way onto Blu-ray. Directed by Peter Jackson and starring Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody, Colin Hanks and Thomas Kretschmann, it tells the story of a film director, Jack Driscoll, and his crew who go to a mysterious island to shoot their movie, but soon they shockingly discover that the island beast, that they believed to be a myth, actually exists. The crew run into more trouble when the island natives, kidnap their leading lady, Ann Darrow, to sacrifice to the giant gorilla. Jack who has fallen for Ann and the... crew bravely enter the jungle to rescue her and capture the beast. But the beast doesn't stay captured for long, once back in New York being exploited for money, the angry ape breaks free from his shackles, kidnaps Ann and causes havoc in the city. It is 1933, and vaudeville actress Ann Darrow (Oscar nominee Naomi Watts) has found herself - like so many other New Yorkers during the Great Depression - without the means to earn a living. Unwilling to compromise and allow herself to sink into a career in burlesque, she considers her limited options while aimlessly wandering the streets of Manhattan. When her hunger drives her to unsuccessfully try to steal an apple from a fruit vendor's stall, she is rescued - literally - by filmmaker and multiple hyphenate Carl Denham (Jack Black). It seems that the entrepreneur-raconteur-adventurer is no stranger to theft, having that day lifted the only existing print of his most recent and unfinished film from under his studio executives' noses when they threatened to pull his completion funds. Carl has until the end of the day to get his crew onboard the Singapore-bound tramp steamer, the S.S. Venture, in hopes of completing his travelogue/action film. Epic remake of the adventure classic from acclaimed director Peter Jackson. In Depression-era New York, unscrupulous filmmaker Carl Denham (Jack Black) is desperate to find a leading lady for his new picture. After a chance encounter, naive actress Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) takes the role, and travels with Denham and sensitive scriptwriter Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody) to the mysterious Skull Island, deep in the Indian Ocean. There the filmmakers discover a secret, savage civilisation that time forgot, and that worships a terrifying, gigantic ape called Kong (a motion-capture performance from Andy Serkis). When Ann is captured to be sacrificed to Kong, the ape becomes obsessed with her. Denham uses this obsession to help capture Kong and transport him back to New York, where he hopes he can make a fortune from exhibiting the creature. But after Kong escapes, the ape unleashes his awesome power against the city in an attempt to find Ann, the woman he truly loves, leading to a tragic conclusion atop the Empire State Building.
