Israel Horovitz directs this Paris-set domestic drama starring Kevin Kline. Kline plays Mathias, a down-and-out American who inherits an apartment in Paris from his estranged and recently deceased father. With nothing stopping him from selling the apartment and growing rich, he travels to Paris to claim his new property. However, when he arrives he finds Mathilde Girard (Maggie Smith), an old woman, living in the apartment who is entitled to it through a loophole in French real estate law. Caught between the stubborn Mathilde and her protective daughter Chloé (Kristin Scott Thomas), Mathias finds his inheritance won't come as easily as he expected...
