Music drama centered around the American soul movement that developed in Northern England in the late 1960s and early '70s. Set in a small town in North West England in 1974, the film follows two young friends who become disillusioned with their dreary lives when they are introduced to American soul music and witness the burgeoning nightclub scene their beloved music engulfs. After falling in love with the 1970s dance scene and with their eyes opened and horizons widened, the duo dream of touring America's record stores and becoming DJs on the northern soul scene. The film features an authentic soundtrack including The Precisions, The Velvets, Shirley Ellis and Epitome of Sound.
