This documentary which aired on BBC4 in May 2012 charts the making of Prog-Rock greats - Pink Floyd's - unforgettable masterpiece from 1975, Wish You Were Here, which followed their internationally acclaimed breakthrough album Dark Side of the Moon.
It was written by Roger Waters mainly during their tour of USA while travelling on the road between venues and is considered by many (including some of the band members) to be Pink Floyds best work. The DVD features interviews with Roger Waters himself and also with other band members David Gilmour and Nick... Mason. There is additional archived material from the late Richard Wright plus appearances from Roy Harpur (guest vocalist - for Have A Cigar), Storm Thorgerson (who designed the sleeve), Ronnie Rondell (stunt man - set on fire for the front cover) plus many more people - engineers, musicians etc - involved in the creative processes leading to the design and construction of the final album.
Syd Barrett, founder member of Pink Floyd (which formed in 1965) who left the band in 1968, ravaged by mental illness and drug abuse, certainly hasn't been forgotten here and the track Shine on You Crazy Diamond, which was all about him and his life, is featured. Gilmour and Waters touchingly talk of their overwhelming sadness at what happened to him during his troubled life.
This DVD, directed by John Edgington, is a must-have-85 minutes for all Pink Floyd fans.
