Robinson in Ruins Blu Ray

| Blu Ray

Newly free from prison, mysterious flneur Robinson has been haunting the Oxfordshire countryside. Rusting film cans found abandoned in an old caravan turn out to contain the results of his research a visual investigation into the historic ruins of the English landscape and the reality of late capitalism. These beautiful pictures have been compiled by his research associate (voiced by Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave). Contrasting past English radicalism and reaction with the 2008 banking collapse, Patrick Keiller's latest essay-film in his Robinson trilogy (London and... Robinson in Space) is an ironic and witty comment on the sustainability of market forces and a profound tribute to the power of nature.Extra Features: Dual Format Edition: includes both Blu-ray and the DVD versions of the main feature Original Theatrical Trailer Deleted scenes and Alternative takes Extensive illustrated booklet featuring essays and film notes [show more]

Filmmaker Patrick Keiller produced, directed and edited this experimental mockumentary, the third in a series concerning the work of a non-existent character named Robinson. Narrator Vanessa Redgrave speaks as a producer who met Robinson during a conference in China, and after he unexpectedly died, she took over post-production on his final film, a meditation on social and environmental problems in England financed by an advertising agency. Over footage of pastoral scenes in the countryside, dilapidated buildings in London, abandoned campsites and evidence of environmental projects of the past (successful and otherwise), the narrator discusses the themes of Robinson's previous films, how they tie in with her study of corporate and governmental responsibility to the Earth and British society, and how it all connects with the global economic crisis of 2008.

Avant-garde British filmmaker Patrick Keiller directs this experimental pseudo-documentary, which takes the viewer on a visual and intellectual pilgrimage through the various landscapes of modern England. Narrated by Vanessa Redgrave, the film juxtaposes unusual combinations of words and images to explore themes of nature, time, politics, history and economics, with particular focus on the financial crisis of the late 2000s.
