Walerian Borowczyk co-writes and directs this tragic romantic drama based on the novel 'Dzieje Grzechu' by acclaimed Polish writer Stefan Zeromski. Eva (Grazyna Dlugolecka) is a beautiful young Polish girl whose passionate affair with a married man leads to betrayal, infanticide and prostitution. Following her lover across Europe to Rome, where he has gone with the stated intention of divorcing his wife, Eva falls prey to the schemes and traps of the various wicked and abusive men she encounters along the way, with ultimately tragic consequences. The cast also includes Jerzy Zelnik, Olgierd Lukaszewicz and Roman Wilhelmi.
