Based on the book by Terry Pratchett Johnny And The Bomb is a time-slip adventure that takes Johnny Maxwell and his pals back into the Second World War. Johnny just happens to be on hand when time-travelling Mrs Tachyon is blown quite literally from 1941 to 2005 landing in a heap almost at Johnny's feet. While poor Mrs T is in hospital Johnny inherits her shopping trolley and its unusual cargo - the Bags of Time. Everything revolves around the 21 May 1941 when the small Pennine town of Blackbury suffered its only air raid of the Second World War. Along with Mrs Tachyon Johnny's Gran and Grandad were there - of course they were only teenagers at the time - but they fell in love when Grandad Tom Maxwell made his epic bike ride to raise the alarm and saved the residents of Paradise Street (including his future bride the pretty young Rose Bushell) from the horrors of the Blitz. Tom and Rose survived to get married and the rest is history - at least it was until young Johnny started messing with the Bags of Time! Johnny and his friends slip back to the Second World War and with the best of intentions start 'bumping into things'. And this is where Terry Pratchett asks the big question - if you could go back in time would your actions make any difference or is history already written? In the world of Pratchett everything makes a difference... maybe not a big difference but a difference. This edition blend all 3 episodes together to create one full-length movie.

  • Cinderella [DVD]Cinderella | DVD | (29/09/2014) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £17.99

Worry not, Disney fans--this special edition DVD of the beloved Cinderella won't turn into a pumpkin at the strike of midnight. One of the most enduring animated films of all time, the Disney-fied adaptation of the gory Brothers Grimm fairy tale became a classic in its own right, thanks to some memorable tunes (including "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes," "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," and the title song) and some endearingly cute comic relief. We all know the story--the wicked stepmother and stepsisters simply won't have it, this uppity Cinderella thinking she's going to a ball designed to find the handsome prince an appropriate sweetheart, but perseverance, animal buddies, and a well-timed entrance by a fairy godmother make sure things turn out all right. There are a few striking sequences of pure animation--for example, Cinderella is reflected in bubbles drifting through the air--and the design is rich and evocative throughout. It's a simple story padded here agreeably with comic business, particularly Cinderella's rodent pals (dressed up conspicuously like the dwarf sidekicks of another famous Disney heroine) and their misadventures with a wretched cat named Lucifer. There's also much harrumphing and exposition spouting by the King and the Grand Duke. It's a much simpler and more graceful work than the more frenetically paced animated films of today, which makes it simultaneously quaint and highly gratifying. --David Kronke, Amazon.com

Mickey Mouse and his friends enter the realm of computer-generated animation in this five-episode, 68-minute Christmas celebration. The holidays are a time for celebration, but when Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and host of other Disney characters become obsessed with holiday preparations, the frenzy of activity leaves everyone feeling stressed, selfish, and full of regret. A skating contest leads best friends Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck down a path of jealousy and hurt feelings in "Belles on Ice," and "Christmas Impossible" finds Huey, Dewie, and Louie selfishly scheming to get on Santa's "good list" at any expense. In "Christmas Maximus," Goofy's son Max is mortified by his father's silly antics and, in "Donald's Gift," Donald's craving for peace and quiet threatens to ruin the whole family's holiday fun. "Mickey's Dog-Gone Christmas" finds Mickey so absorbed in planning the perfect Christmas party that he lashes out at Pluto and almost loses a very special friend forever. While the animation style is new, what hasn't changed is Disney's commitment to stories with wholesome values: Mickey and the gang remind viewers that the holiday season is not about selfishness, flashy parties, and expensive gifts, but about selflessness and the celebration of family and friends.--Tami Horiuchi
