| RRP From small beginnings in Amy Lee's home town of Little Rock, Arkansas, Evanescence have grown to become a global phenomenon, with their blend of metal infused intensity, gothic melodrama and pop sensibility adhering them to legions of fans across the world. Members have come and gone with some frequency, but this hasn't stopped the band winning several Grammy Awards and selling millions upon millions of albums, as Amy Lee has lead her group through its many guises to achieve that rare combination of critical acclaim and commercial success. Despite such success, like all great musical acts Evanescence have always been shrouded in a certain mystery - until now that it is. Evanescence - From A Little Rock To A Great Big Sound explores the world of this extraordinary group and the music they make. Covering their meteoric rise to fame from their debut album Fallen, and their continued success thereafter, this documentary film gives a revealing insight into Evanescence to a depth previously uncharted. Featuring interviews with Amy Lee, and with her father, band members past and present, and those closest to them, as well as rare archive film, footage previously unseen, exclusive photographs, and much more besides, this really is the definitive DVD about this most talented and challenging of groups.

Valery Gergiev In Rehearsal | DVD | (22/04/2002)
from £16.44
| Saving you £3.55 (17.80%)
| RRP The passionately scruffy St Petersburg conductor gets as impressive and fiery a sound out of the Rotterdam Philharmonic as he does out of his own Kirov/Maryinsky theatre orchestra in Valery Gergiev in Rehearsal. The programme here starts with Stravinsky's early showpiece Fireworks and moves into the brooding neo-classical Piano Concerto with Alexander Toradze as soloist. The heart of the concert is Prokofiev's Scythian Suite, his largely successful attempt to produce a ballet score as radical and shocking as Stravinsky's Rite of Spring; Gergiev is passionately committed to this music and sees its heart as being as much caught up with quiet interludes of almost chamber-music dialogues between instruments as it is with the work's huge climaxes. The symphonic fragments from Debussy's oratorio Le Martyre de Saint Sebastien is almost as charismatic a piece of paganism. This is an intelligent concert because it is constructed around an implied dialogue between three composers trying to find a new sound world for the 20th century. The accompanying documentary shows Gergiev at his most charming and Mephistophelean rehearsing the Prokofiev, and gives a full account of the origins of the score. On the DVD: Valery Gergiev in Rehearsal is presented in a standard 4:3 visual aspect and has adequate, though not remarkable, PCM stereo sound. --Roz Kaveney
The Rolling Stones - Rock of Ages | DVD | (08/06/2015)

| RRP It seems hard to believe that the Rolling Stones have been around since the early sixties but the band show no signs of slowing down even after a career that has spanned over 50 years. Rock of Ages charts the amazing story of what is arguably the greatest rock band in the world chronicling their first ever gig at the Marquee Club on the 12th of July 1962 the line-up changes the famous “rivalry” between the Stones and the Beatles the meteoric rise to fame (and notoriety) of the group as well as all the personal drama the band members themselves had to go through. From the earliest beginnings when manager Andrew Olden was eager to present the Stones to the world as the antithesis of the family-friendly Beatles trouble followed the band wherever it went with numerous drug busts in-fighting within the members of the group and the offstage antics with groupies leading to the newspaper headline: “Would you let your sister go with the Rolling Stones?” Brian Jones one of the founders of the group suffering from drug addiction began to feel displaced and a decision was made to remove him from the band. Sadly Jones not long after this event was later found dead in his swimming pool in Sussex on 3rd July 1969. However since then The Stones as they are affectionately known by fans around the world have gone from strength to strength. In recent years the Stones have concentrated on their live shows still giving 100%. Jagger jokes that there aren’t so many pairs of women’s underpants thrown on stage these days; “more Y-fronts” he laughs. But that hasn’t curbed their enthusiasm for touring and while they enjoy playing live music the Rolling Stones will keep on rolling for years to come. The programme includes interviews with the band members. Bonus Features: Bill Wyman exhibition Talking Tour The Fans Get Their ‘Satisfaction’ Mick jagger Goes Solo Mick Jagger writes for the movie “Alfie” Rolling Stones play in Germany Keith Richards profile “Shine a Light” Documentary
