And now in 1938, with the deadline approaching, another Gracie Alden (played by guess who!) is determined to pass muster, by hook or by crook. She does so by invading the college with a bunch of her vintage vaudevillian cronies, including fast-talking sidekick Bob Hope. Immediately the sober halls of academe are transformed into an all-singin', all dancin', jumping jitterbugging joint! Misogynist Professor Hubert Dash (Edward Everett Horton) and his secretary George Jones, played by George Burns, are mortified. They're determined to stop the college they love being ruined by this bunch of halfwits! College Swing is pure, unadulterated, irresistibly gleeful, all-star musical tomfoolery of a sort they just don't (and can't) make anymore!

  Screwedwas another nail in the coffin of former Saturday Night Livewisecracker Norm MacDonald, following his dismal previous film, Dirty Work. However, while Screwedisn't particularly funny (the jokes about dentures, dog poop and dead bodies are pretty much as old as the hills), the plot exerts a perverse interest; for most of the film, it's genuinely unpredictable. MacDonald plays Willard, the butler-chauffer, all-purpose flunky of Mrs. Crock, the wealthy, penny-pinching owner of a pastry company. Fed up with her abuse, Willard and his friend Rusty (David Chappelle from Blue Streak and 200 Cigarettes) conspire to kidnap her dog Muffin. But Muffin escapes and returns home; the ransom note is assumed to be for Willard himself. Rusty and Willard run with the idea, sending in a videotape of himself being held prisoner. When a detective starts getting a little too close, they panic and decide to fake Willard's death. Okay, none of it makes much sense, but in a world of ridiculously formulaic films which slavishly follow every screenwriting cliché Screwed seems like a brief oasis of narrative invention. Of course, it still isn't funny. And by the end, it's lost whatever spark of imagination that got it started. Too bad.   Season 7: lots happened behind the scenes between seasons and early on in the seventh year of the hit comedy, leaving audiences speculating this might be the last. Perry became seriously ill again, and returned looking more emaciated than ever. Cox regained weight, but despite finishing Scream 3 happily, things were already rocky with David Arquette. Much was made in the press about Aniston marrying Brad Pitt, of course, but the real news (allaying fans' fears) was NBC's expensive renewal of the cast for two years at $750,000 per episode each (more than six times their previous increase). Onscreen, at least there was Chandler and Monica's engagement lasting the whole year, despite predictable ups and downs (eg: "T.O.W. the Truth About London" revealing that Monica fancied Joey). By the time we finally get to "T.O.W. Chandler's Dad" (Kathleen Turner!), it seems inevitable that the two-part finale will be an insane mess--but with a happy-ish ending. Sure enough, "T.O.W. Chandler and Monica's Wedding" features Gary Oldman joining in the chaos as Chandler repeatedly goes missing. Other star turns in the year were Seinfeld's Jason Alexander as a suicidal Office Manager, Susan Sarandon as soap queen bitch Jessica Lockhart, Denise Richards as one of Ross and Monica's endless number of cousins and Winona Ryder as a surprise old friend, prompting "T.O.W. Rachel's Big Kiss". But perhaps the most telling instalment of this weirdly atmospheric year was "T.O.W. They All Turn Thirty". It suggested that maybe the Friends are all getting too old to carry on living their frivolous lives the same way after all. --Paul Tonks

  Something Smells Funny is US comedian Tom Green's breakthrough TV show, a series of skits that will have you chewing your fist in next to no time. Outside of the States, Green is best known for being married to Drew Barrymore, who positively bubbles with enthusiasm every time his name is mentioned. Beyond that, he remains something of a nothing, though the more media-savvy may be aware of Green's recent battle against testicular cancer, which, in typically fearless fashion, he filmed for the scrutiny of the American public. And if that's all you know about Green, think yourself lucky, because as an entertainer he sucks. He was that babbling buffoon on the boat in Charlie's Angels, the one who sailed into the sunset with Drew (naturally) at the end of the picture. Not put off? Well, he was also the narrator of Road Trip, the one who puts a live mouse in his mouth and expects it to bring the house down. And now comes the chance to slog through an hour's worth of material from his US TV show. Highlights include the lofty, goateed funnyman trying to open canned food with sticks of M-5000 dynamite; ripping the brains out of dead cows after cracking their skulls open with a baseball bat; and fishing turds out of public toilets with his bare hands. He also gains great mileage from humiliating his parents on camera: if he's not filling their house with llamas and donkeys he's arranging for their car to be spray-painted with lesbian pornography. They must be very proud. What's more, it's all done WITH THE VOLUME TURNED RIGHT UP, Green obviously thinking that the louder you scream the funnier it is. Wrong. --Jamie Graham

As a result of this robbery apart from the madcap series of comedy adventures our duo determine that they too will lead a life of crime and proceed to laughingly bungle a series of robbery attempts with Ollioposing as Diavolo. They make the mistake of holding up the real Diavolo (admirably played by Dennis King). He in turn threatens their lives but spares them and makes them his personal servants. Diavolois enamoured with the charms of Lady Rocberg(played by the lovely titillating Thelma Todd) and the 500 000 francs she has hidden in her petticoat. Featuring James Finlayson as support in the rollicking jolly frolic. A rarely seen screen gem this film was one of Stan and Ollie's own favourites and shows the great duo at the top of their trade.
