Part poetry part journalism part philosophy master filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard's 'Notre Musique' is a witty and lyrical reflection on war through the ages. The film is structured into three Dantean Kingdoms: Hell Purgatory and Heaven. The journey begins in Hell represented by modern war and then moves to Purgatory set in Sarajevo. Finally Paradise is conceived as a small beach guarded by Marines from the United States. At the same time the film also follows the parallel stories

In Two Or Three Things I Know About Her Jean-Luc Godard beckons us ever closer to money sex fashion the city love language war: in a word everything. Considered by many to be among the legendary French filmmaker's finest achievements the film takes as its ostensible subject the daily life of Juliette Janson (Marina Vlady) a housewife from the Paris suburbs who prostitutes herself for extra money. Yet this is only a template for Godard to spin off into provocative philosophical tangents and gorgeous images. Two Or Three Things I Know About Her is perhaps Godard's most revelatory look at consumer culture shot in ravishing widescreen color by Raoul Coutard.

Contains three films by Jean Luc Godard: ALPHAVILLE UNE FEMME EST UNE FEMME and LE PETIT SOLDAT.ALPHAVILLE:With 1965's ALPHAVILLE--part sci-fi action film part noir thriller--the acclaimed French New Wave director Jean-Luc Godard achieves a stunningly clinical futurism using absolutely no special visual effects. The result is a moving original film that with its abstract political and intellectual themes essentially redefines the apocalyptic science fiction genre. ALPHAVILLE clearly the product of one of cinema's greatest contributors is nothing less than a bona fide cult classic.UNE FEMME EST UNE FEMME:Godard pays tribute to American musicals in much the same way that his debut feature A BOUT DE SOUFFLE did to American gangster films. The story follows the beautiful Angela (Anna Karina) a strip-tease artist who wants nothing more than to have a baby. Her live-in boyfriend Emile (Jean-Claude Brialy) doesn't want to refuse and risk sparking major friction between the two. However fed up with her constant pleading Emile finally suggests that she shack up with his best friend Alfred (Jean-Paul Belmondo) and much to Emile's dismay she eventually takes his advice. Godard's second feature employs jump cuts and jarring sound mixing--most notably during Karina's strip-tease performances. Godard is at his most affectionate and good-natured here. He also makes several cinematic in-jokes including one in which Belmondo's character mentions that he wants to hurry home to watch A BOUT DE SOUFFLE the film that turned Belmondo into a megastar just one year before. Featuring a magnetically cute performance from Karina who soon after the film became Godard's wife this loving romantic comedy is a dazzler.LE PETIT SOLDAT (1960):Michel Subor stars as Bruno a hitman under contract by the French government who suddenly develops a conscience and a philosophy when he is ordered to kill a left wing Arab leader. His newfound ideals are provoked by the stunning Veronica (Karina) a young woman who is secretly employed by the Arabs. The two fall in love and not surprisingly Bruno finds it impossible to carry out his mission bringing down the wrath of the French government on both he and Veronica. Beautifully filmed by Raoul Coutard LES PETIT SOLDAT is less interested in the mechanics of plot as it is in providing Godard a voice for thoughts and musings on the politics and horrors of the Algerian War. It was originally banned in France because of its frank depiction of torture during Algeria's war of Independence which was tearing France apart at the time of the film's completion.

Anne Wiazemsky (Godard's then-wife) plays a philosophy student who sympathizes with a group of Maoist supporters. Long out-of-circulation and unavailable on home-video, Jean-Luc Godard's 1964 masterpiece Une femme marie, fragments d'un film tourn en 1964 en noir et blanc [A Married Woman: Fragments of a Film Shot in 1964 in Black and White] has, until now, represented the ostensibly 'missing' key work from the first, zeitgeist-defining phase of JLG's filmography. The feature which bridges the gap between Bande part and Alphaville, Une femme marie is, nevertheless, a galaxy, or gallery, unto itself — a lucid, complex, profoundly funny series of portraits, etched with Godardian acids, of the wife that represents either a singular case, or a universal example, of ''a''/''the'' married woman, and the men in her orbit. Macha Mril (later of Pialat's Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble, and Varda's Sans toit ni loi) plays Charlotte — the title character. She's married to aviator Pierre (Philippe Leroy, of Becker's Le Trou). She sleeps with thespian Robert (Bernard Nol). She talks intelligence with renowned critic-filmmaker Roger Leenhardt, and takes part in a fashion-shoot at a public pool. The fragments of the film's subtitle are chapters, episodes, vignettes, tableaux; Une femme marie is a pile of magazines made into a film, and a film turned into a magazine — the table of contents reading: Alfred Hitchcock. Jean-Luc Godard expertly directs his then wife Anna Karina in one of the seminal movies of the French new wave. As one would expect from Godard the film is daring and experimental both in its use of sound recording and finished editing and includes a thought-provoking insight into the social conditions and mores prevalent at the times. Karina plays provincial girl Nana working as a shop assistant who after separating from her husband decides to embark on a career as an actress.

Regarded as Godard and Gorin's return to so-called mainstream cinema after a period of four years with the Marxist, Dzigha-Vertov Group making short films and videos for political groups and student campuses, during which time Godard had been forced to make TV commercials. Four years after the 1968 student riots, Godard's film directly addresses both the revised expectations of earlier radicals and the difficulty of trying to say anything radical in a conventional film form within a capitalist system. Jane Fonda and Yves Montand star as an American journalist and French ex-New Wave film director who get caught up with a factory strike and a sit-in where the bosses are held captive. With the ironic use of its stars, the film manages to be both politically astute, formally self-reflexive and entertaining.
