In newly conquered England the years which followed the Battle of Hastings were marked by violent turmoil. A film biography with a difference, Sir John Mills' Moving Memories charts the life of one of Britain's most distinguished actors. Compiled from interviews with the man himself and with his family and friends, it traces his career from humble beginnings to all-time great of British cinema. The many film clips reveal an electric screen presence and a willingness to undertake a range of difficult, challenging roles. The package creates major interest with its excerpts from hundreds of hours of home movies shot by Mills during the 1950s and 1960s. These not only capture his young family but many of the period's biggest stars at their most candid: there cannot be many films showing Sir Laurence Olivier belly-flopping into a swimming pool. This is a fascinating document of a bygone age and a fine tribute to a genuine legend. On the DVD: Sir John Mills' Moving Memories is a short main feature and there has been little attempt to make use of the additional disc space. Extras are limited to text-only biographies and filmographies, plus a selection of movie stills. The quality of the picture and sound betrays the film's television origins, although the home movie footage is blessed with a rich, vibrant colour. --Phil Udell
Using 300 hours of footage shot over three years this extraordinary and thought-provoking documentary follows a battle-hardened Afghan Brigadier General Sayar and the friendship he develops with an American Colonel enlisted with helping him turn ragtag groups of uncertain impoverished men into a trained standing Afghan National Army. This unexpected camaraderie is captured between them despite Sayar's growing exasperation with the US and their growing friendship reveals the human cost of an impossible policy. The film is an intimate realistic account of the constant cultural and professional conflicts between the Afghans and the visiting armies. While lack of trust runs strong stronger are the tight emotional bonds sometimes formed between leaders in the rebuilding of a nation despite political and social barriers.

In Two Or Three Things I Know About Her Jean-Luc Godard beckons us ever closer to money sex fashion the city love language war: in a word everything. Considered by many to be among the legendary French filmmaker's finest achievements the film takes as its ostensible subject the daily life of Juliette Janson (Marina Vlady) a housewife from the Paris suburbs who prostitutes herself for extra money. Yet this is only a template for Godard to spin off into provocative philosophical tangents and gorgeous images. Two Or Three Things I Know About Her is perhaps Godard's most revelatory look at consumer culture shot in ravishing widescreen color by Raoul Coutard.

Full match with slow motion replays and commentary by Barry Davies and Lawrie McEnemy. A single goal from Alan Kennedy in the 82nd minute settled this tight and nervous game who was able to take advantage of a lucky break and some shocking Spanish defending. His run into the box should have been checked by Rafael Garcia Cortez only for the defender to miss ball and man and when shooting from a narrow angle he was assisted by a goalkeeper displaying little positional sense. The late goal brought the trophy back to Anfield for the third time. It was also the fifth time in a row that the winners had been an English team. Aston Villa would win it the following year meaning that three English teams (the other was Nottingham Forest) shared in a period of unprecedented dominance by one league.
